I have just got HoI 2 but when i start up the game I see 2 game windows that are flashing making it unplayable. I have closed all other programs running in the background except explorer but still running the same any help much appreciated.

I've searched all my programs but nothing for MM.exe. I did run the demo a few months ago and this was working ok, I have re downloaded it and that as the same problem
Well, you must have installed an application since then that tries to periodically do something, and wanting the keyboard focus to to it. That causes the quick flipping back and forward between the game and the desktop, which you (due to the speed) perceive as flicker.
Music Match (or mm.exe) is a known culprit, but there are others. Look for programs like MSN (internet chat), music sharing programs, peer to peer sharing programs and such.

The driver you have is a few months old. When the game did work correctly, were you using the same video driver at that time as is currently installed? Because the description about the observed behaviour strongly suggests your video driver is messing things up.

You could try two things:
1 - Set your desktop in high color mode (16 bit) instead of the current true color mode (32 bit)
2 - Reboot to enter the BIOS setup. Goto advanced chipset settings, and adjust the AGP Aperture size. In your current configuration, you should probably have it on 32 MB.

Seems to be working fine now thanks a lot, just one last question when I download the patch do I just have to use the latest or run through them all.
Just the latest one. 1.3A currently, then if you want some more AI enhancements there is a 1.3B enhancement pack that you can add to 1.3A, you need to uncompress that directly into the HOI folder as it has no self install. At any rate it reurires 1.3A.
