There are three major mods available for HoI 2. CORE (Community Open Resource Exchange), TRP (Total Realism Project) and HSR (Historical Stony Road). CORE has extensive tech tree changes and many new events with minor AI changes. It is the best mod if you like the combat system in Vanilla HoI 2. HSR has many new events and perhaps the toughest AI. It is best played as Germany but all countries are playable. It is designed for players who find the game to be easy and want a real challenge. TRP has extensive AI and combat changes. Combat is much more in depth and has very little in common with Vanilla HoI 2. TRP involves much more strategic planning. As the name implies realism is the goal. You won’t be conquering the world as Romania with TRP. Some countries, like the US, are limited in land and naval builds prior to the war starting. In my opinion TRP’s AI is where vanilla HoI should be. All three are fun in their own way and I would suggest at least trying all three at least once to see which one you prefer. TRP is the most changed MOD over all from Vanilla (unmodified) HoI 2. Keep in mind TRP's latest patches only work with Armageddon. I believe CORE is the same. HSR is available for both DD and Armageddon.

For the record: we want to migrate CORE's AI to reach or approach TRP's levels for the upcoming release (which will take us another few months). As Lothos has voluntarily offered TRP's AI files to us we have a headstart in doing so, but since CORE is rather different from plain Vanilla some tweaking will be definately in order. But we hope to move away from HoI's Vanilla combat system pretty soon.

There are more out there :)
Very true.. mod 33.. mod 34... Turtledove, Southern Road to Victory, Kiaserreich, CCIP, Modern Day Scenario, just to name a few. Thats why I said major, I probably should have stated most downloaded. Some of the above mentioned mods I have played (Kiaserrich, Turtledove, Southern Road to Victory) and enjoyed immensly. I just down loaded CCIP and have yet to try it. Mod 33 id only for DD so I doubt I will play it, even though I have haerd good things about it. I didn't mean to offend or slight anyone there is a lot of well done work out there.

But it can be a little overwhealming for someone who is just discovering mods, so i descided to stick with the ones that most people play to let him get his feet wet. :) After that, hopefully, he will move on to other mods as well.

That is awsome news. That will make life very intersting for the die hard CORE fans! ;)
