Drive out merchants

Is there any way to actually control the activity in a CoT? I get messages from time to time that one of my merchants has been 'driven out' by fierce competition: I'm wondering if there's anyway for me to exert such influence in one of my own CoT's?

send merchants and if your tech level is high(er) you might (U think that may be random) expell another power's merchant. I've done it often.

When new merchants are placed in a COT there is a chance that they will 'drive out' merchants already in place there (this can happen even if the placing country already has a monopoly). Thus, you can attain full monopolies on COTs by placing new merchants whenever another country gets a foothold. Of course, it's easier just to forbid their trade than to keep placing new merchants all the time.
