I've noticed character portraits have gone 3d. This excites me, as I think it opens up the game to more personal character interactions. Or to cut to the chase, duels! I think it would be cool to have a duel mini-game, maybe turn based, with the 3d characters where you can collect "forms" from different elders and wise men, or perhaps learn Eastern or African forms on pilgrimage or crusade. I think this is also an awesome opportunity to explore other non-European cultures as well. It would be pretty bloody cool to be Richard the Lion Heart going into the crusades with fully decked western sword forms and skills and then, through duels with Muslim forms, - if you survive - you should be able to learn those Islamic forms of sword fighting and bring those skills back with you to Europe. I think the idea of a post-crusade Richard fighting in a Persian or Syrian style of warfare back in England would be really awesome!
Or hell, it would be cool if two master duelists can't beat each other, and this prompts a random chance to end up becoming friends because of how much respect you have for each other's skills. Imagine Richard and Saladin, locked in a duel of fates, both the masters of each other. Each turn they block and perry and attack in perfect form and neither can win against the other. Suddenly you both realize, you are equals. This changes everything! You befriends each other, end the crusade, and establish formal diplomatic skills.
I admit, I'm a bit of a star wars fan, and one of my favorite elements of that series is "light-saber diplomacy". Where the dialogues and one-liners can make someone your rival, or your friend.
This can even expand into areas of being a POW. In CK2, being a POW is perhaps one of the most boring experiences there is, where you basically can't do anything. In CK3, using the duel system, you could have a situation where you gain the respect of your captors through some skill display. Perhaps you can even become a traitor! You decide their god(s) or wiser or their philosophy is better or their interpretation of the Filioque wins you over
. In any case, you basically move to a new realm and start some new chapter of your dynasty in a new land! All because you chose to invest in your forms for your character and become a master duelist.
I think there's a ton of potential using the 3d characters to this effect in the game and creating compelling and fun personal lore for your character.
Or maybe I just want to be a bastard adventurer who, in a duel, is told my opponent is my father
