In the Manuel Komnenos bookmark, the Hungarian prince Bela was a brother to the king Stephan III.

How do I push his claim for the title to secure Hungarian lands into the Byzantium empire? I tested via console command that both normal inheritance and pushing claims will make prince Bela become independent.

Any ideas?

Wait...you missed something, there. What are you doing, exactly?

Are you inviting Bela into the court of the Byzantine Empire? And then pushing his claim as the Byzantine Empire, hoping that Hungary will become a vassal?

If so, of course that would not work. Hungary is not de jure part of your empire, and Bela is not part of your dynasty...and one of those things would need to be true in order to for a king to become your vassal when the claim is pressed. Yes, this is true even if Bela is landed, as he only remains part of your empire if the tier of the title being pressed is equal or lower to the one he already has...that's the case even in vanilla.

@Rylock: Was this changed along the way? I recall being able to press ducal claims for new barons in the past and they remained my vassals, even though they are neither of my dynasty nor the title being pressed being de jure.

Perhaps you did so in vanilla and I'm incorrect about that. It has been awhile since I played vanilla, I'll admit.

Regardless, it's not the case in CK2Plus and never has been, even since before I came onto the mod. You cannot give someone a tiny barony or county and then expect to get an entire kingdom as a vassal under your realm as a result.

Makes sense, when you put it that way. Besides, CK 2+ did make a rather convincing case that "big" is not always "better".

Yeah, that's exactly how it works in vanilla. And one of the most common ways to expand, especially against people of your own religion.

I wish you had included a way to negotiate a promise of vadsalage in return for pushing the claim.
