DV Patch 2.1 help!

Hi guys, I have just recently bought CK and the VD expansion for it from Impulse. I have installed correctly and about 15 years in my game crashed.

I have looked for a solution to this problem here and found the beta patch 2.1. However, when ever I try to install it it simply says;

--- excel file not found
---
Do you still want to continue?

When I press retry, nothing happens. When I spam hit ignore I get this:

######## EXCEPTION: 0xC0000005 at address: 0x777F2272: ACCESS VIOLATION write attempt to address 0x00000024

If I abort, well... I abort and nothing happens so it's not the installer crashing...

I can see that there is an excel file in one of the folders but perhaps It can't read it for some reason.

Any help would be appreciated as I was enjoying the hell out of my game untill it crashed. It annoyed me further when it crashed at the same point...

When installing the beta-patch, you have to install it directly into your CK directory and overwrite all files.

Maybe something went wrong when you first extracted the file?? .. are you using WinRAR to unpack the file?

Other than that I am not sure what would cause the problem.

Do you also know whether the original CK needs to be ver 1.5 or does it not matter when installing DV?

I do not have WinRar (I use a different RAR extractor). Do I have to get it? Where do I get it? Is it a free product?

Also, I'm not entirely clear on the proceedure for installing a Beta patch in the first place.

WinRAR is free


But any other extractor that can extract Rar-files should work to, but since I don't know other extractors (except Winzip) I can only tell you how you can unRar the beta file with WinRar

You put the beta-file into your main Crusader Kings folder, then right click on that beta-file and select the option 'extract here' and then say 'yes' to the question if you want to overwrite existing files.
