Well, yeah they did say that but I don't think anyone really believed it (as much as we wanted to). Back in March or thereabout Sergei hinted that the beta would start in about 6 weeks. That is when I remember seeing release dates of Sept.2 on some sites.:D :)

I remember pre-ordering Baldurs Gate 2 and steaming when it was in shops well before it arrived. With the industry's current penchant for shipping alpha builds as retail, I doubt I'd ever pre-order again.

I don't think the game is coming out that date, just that someone, somewhere might have suggested it as a date a while ago.

And so it goes. Im convinced that preorder dates on the web are guesses for the reasons I outlined. Someone may have said something to someone somewhere, its probably likely that that is what happened as pulling a random date just seems ultra bad business.

Who knows where the date comes from, but no official date has been given this we know per Harvard so if the online retailers nail the release date well that suggests that someone did nudge someone and drop a date. Doubt it but 9/2 isnt far off we will know for sure if they are right or not.
 
I'd be shocked if it was out on that date. Amazon had the MOO3 original release date until that was missed, they even claimed it was shipping, so beware of ordering on their site.

Then they had the next official release date, until that slipped, so I'd be shocked if they are just making things up. Maybe someone at SF mentioned it a while ago
 
Since they have no even opened applications for beta I seriously doubt 9/2 as a release date.:(

There wasn't ever going to be an open, public beta. It is supposed to be a private beta run by Paradox, as per their usual format, where they take applications of those interested, and select the participants.
