First I'd like to say thanks to the forum members for all the help you give new people. :)

I finally got this game, thanks to you all.

Now that I understand this game, I have gone back and replayed games I had trouble with while learning and doing great.

I even started as a count and am now the King of France.

Now on to the questions

where do you get most of your money from? Do you adjust the tolls and taxes often or just grab land and use the combined inflow of money from that?

does it change from game to game or from Count to Duke to King?

If you want money, be sure to:

- have a good steward
- build province improvements (+1 gold preferred over +5% except in Byzantion and the likes)
- from mid game, wage quick wars against small neighbours who sit on their treasure chest (AI will try to save up 1500 for a medium fort)
- when short of money, kill the wife, marry an other one (royal marriage aid duty). Old/sick/pneumonia ladies are preferred to remarry again. (OK, this one is a bit, erm... very gamey)

I usually don't touch the tolls and taxes slider.
When I do it, it is set to 0% to get the loyalty bonus from no taxes.

It is usually economical to conquer a few lucrative provinces like Praha, Palermo, Zaragoza...
Venice and Genoa would be the easiest, but it feels like cheating...

And speaking of Gamey, this is at the top of my list. (List of things I LOVE to do, that is).

Especially when dealing with Rebellious Vassals who have alot of money, and If I've got oodles and oodles of spare Prestige.

DOW (or accept a DOW with a smile) some rich Ruler. Use my vassal's troops to beat him senseless (And that right there is the biggest way to make money, by 'Not Spending It In The First Place'). Wait for him to offer everything for peace, accept, remove my troops from his province and then immediately march back in and DOW him again.

100 prestige loss? So what, I've got thousands and thousands of prestige going to waste. I end up with all of his money, remove any BB by giving up a claim and he's now my vassal so I can use HIS rebuilt large army to do it again to the next sucker. :)
