While i was in the Ck forum, i noticed people in the mod forum talking about editing or making another map...is this possible to do through the program files of HOI? Can you edit the world map or make a new one?

i know all about scenario editing and changing the countries and all that, but i mean, is it possible to change the actual world map?
(waits for the masters to clue him in)

Depends on what you mean. Some people refer to changing what provinces a country has or creating new countries to be editing the map. That can be done by editing the text files. If you want to actually change the graphical map (province names, province shapes, etc.) then you would need to do what Inferis and WiSK are doing with EU2: http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31631. I don't know of anyone working on this for HoI.

Editing the map would take substantial amount of computer's resources. Johan said it takes a gig of RAM too run the full map. Harvards Hacking Heaven for a tutorial to make a country and if you just want to change the colors then look for ..../heartsofiron/map/colorscales and ..../heartsofiron/db/provinces, be careful though.

Looks like we will probably get a map editor (or two) for EU2 anyway so I'm sure it could be done for HoI if someone was dedicated enough. I suspect HoI2's map may be more difficult.

Note also that things like ports and terrain types are determined by text files

Also existence and location of beaches. These are all in province.csv.

Ease of Use suggestion

Yes, it's easy to edit the resources for each province. I've done extensive historical editing in the Starfire Historical Mod for resources. And I released a "province editor" program to make doing this easy.

Just a general suggestion - not meant as a flame.
It would save readers a *lot* of time searching the Forum for things if everyone (myself included) provided a link everytime they referenced another thread, program or site.

btw I use Starfire - thanks.
