How do you solve the problem with different game speed in a multiplayer games? Since you all prefer to play at different rates, there must be hard to agree on a general swiftness. Exactly how does this work? (I couldn't decide whether to post in MP- or General-forum, I hope it ended up in the right place :) )

In my opinion,

You never want to run faster than 4 months a minute, and I don't prefer running that fast myself. Unlike single player.. you can never pause.. so if things get to be too much..they really get to be too much.

Also when i play single player i play 1/8 and pause alot, pausing in MP just isn't the done thing so i like to go slower.

So what basically happens at the beginning of a MP game, is that the entire company decides on a common game speed? Preferably a rather low pace one, so that all in the group can keep up, since there is no way to pause, is that it? Sorry for being slow but it's getting late over here... :)

Yes, you choose the speed in the beginning. I personally like 1=2months or 1=4months.
They both have their advantages and disadvantages: the one is too slow in peace and the other too fast in war :)

Just try some different things and see what you and your partners like most!

You can pause in MP, but there is a countdown to actually pausing and then all players have to unpause to get the game going again. Because pause is difficult and to stop lag between computers, 1/2 is normal MP speed, sometimes 1/4 but that is less common. When you go to V net you can talk to people before you launch a game and decide on things like speed.

V net does seem to be very hit and miss with regard to opposition, if you play against random people you meet there, then normally everyone will goto war first thing and then drop out and you will never see them again. I recommend that you either get together with a group of others that arrange to meet on regular days or you join a clan where you swap e-mail. I think this is the only way to ever get anywhere in a MP game.
