Yeah, I'll take care of the ID conflicts. I just wanted to let you know so that your file wouldn't work because Paradox added a 00007 in a patch. Don't worry, I'll make myself useful! ;)

I think 1791 is probably the right year for such an event. In 1791 Britain passed the Constitutional Act establishing Upper Canada as a separate colony. There's no real reason why an alternate choice couldn't have been to pass the British North America Act and found the Dominion of Canada instead.

JC your suggestion is pretty good, but I can't figure out what the practical game effects of A and B would be. My initial thought was to have A do nothing, not to have a B, and have C simply set Canada free as a vassal - no other effect. Any ideas?

Well, I thought adding a C would make it more unlikely that Canada would appear. I don't think the BNA Act would have been very likely in 1791. Possible, but quite unlikely. If choice A is form Upper & Lower Canada as formal colonies, it could result in population increases in the Upper Canadian provinces. Choice B (leave Quebec in control of all British North America) could lead to population increases in Lower Canada provinces (if all of BNA is ruled from Quebec, why go to the bother of moving to the Great Lakes).

Pishtaco, you asked why such an event would be necessary. The reason is that the AI never sets countries free as a vassal except through events. Without such an event Canada would never appear unless a human player controlled Britain. And yes, Canada is ahistoric in this time period so should no appear very often, but it would make things more interesting to have it appear occasionally.

Perhaps the 1791 event could trigger based on if the USA had somehow broken away earlier, hence giving Loyalists more time to create a viable society in Canada (definitely the Loyalist event should be a trigger for the 1791 event). I'm not sure how this would be done, though.

Your A, B and C ideas could work. One question though - is there any way to trigger the population increases, but only if Britain owns those provinces?

I'm VERY new to this kind of file and event editing.

Just posting to mention that Sebastion Cabot is still in the EEP 1.0 English leader file.

Thanks for the heads-up on Sebasian Cabot in v1.0. I'm not sure how that happened, as the other changes I made to leaders.eng are in the v1.0 file (like replacing Willoughby with Hawkins). I'll make sure the change is in the next version.

Also, I finally got your Welsh monarch & leader files to work. Because they were *.txt files, the game wasn't reading them. I had to go into DOS to change them from monarchs.wls.txt to just monarchs.wls. However, I just learned that IDs above 20000 can cause serious problems with corrupted saved game files, & I used IDs 20000 to about 20020 or so. I'll change that for the next EEP version.

For province-specific commands (with the exception of provinceculture), the command will not execute if the province is not owned by the nation having the event. What this means is say that choice A leads to population increases in 10 provinces. If England owns only 8 of them, then the population increases only happen in those 8, & nothing happens in the other 2, regardless of who owns them.

Speaking of Sebastian Cabot being removed, I thought of an idea to restrain early North American colonization. While fooling around with a plague event for the Aztecs, I dicovered that the game can store negative amounts of manpower. Presumably this would be true for colonists as well. (I haven't tested this yet)

If it works like that, we could give England and France negative colonists, either in the setup or through events. They then couldn't colonize until they got into positive numbers (hopefully around 1600). Anyone think this is worth trying?

Perfect! I really wanted to avoid having provinces owned by, say, the Hurons getting a population increase for no good reason.

I'll take a stab at this, and other, events this weekend.

I realize that the penalties arn't that drastic for being able to change Brittany and Leinster to french culture, but I figure the shared religion should help. Plus England will be going into the rule of the Queens so the player will loose french culture or a while anyways and be suffering huge revolt risks.

Just a comment on the Brittany resettlement events: If you own Armor but not Morbihan (which is quite likely), you will get a perpetual +3 revoltrisk in Armor... Some might find that cool, others might not ;)

Edit: I see you need to own all of the Brittany provinces for the initial event to trigger, but you may still lose Morbihan in the time from 1530 to 1535...

Reasoning for this is that as long as there is a province still possessing the gaelic culture in the area of Brittany, then the gaelic people in the provinces you do own are going to resent the french domination. Once all the gaelic peoples of Brittany have been absorbed then they arn't going to revolt, so the whole area has to be controled to subjugate the populace. For as long as their culture exists they will cling to it and revolt. So England better make sure it keeps a hold of the Brittany provinces.

RepublicofGenoa - I like this series of events. I have a couple of suggestions:

1. Perhaps the first event should have a DP trigger or two, like centralization being above, say, 4, the idea being that a greatly decentralized England might leave enough power for local Frenchmen to not have any great desire to leave. Also, perhaps a trigger could be added that stability is less than 1, as the French would have a greater desire to leave their homes if times were bad.

2. For the colonies events, what would happen if the English did not own any colonies by then? In the next version of the EEP, the English would have only had J. Cabot as an explorer by then, & they might not have any colonies yet. I haven't used the -4 value yet, so I don't know what would happen.

3. For the Irish plantations events, keep in mind that the first plantation occurred in 1556 in Leix & Offaly Cos. on the outskirts of the Pale, & the first systemic plantation did not occur until the late 1570s/early 1580s in Munster after the Desmond rebellion. That is not to say that plantations could not have occurred earlier, but in the 1540s, English control in Leinster varied from nominal to none. Perhaps the event description could state that the French "settlers" set a precedent & example later adopted by the English.

O.K. Johnny
1. If the player has conquered France they basically have two kingdoms which means that there should be colonists willing to leave from both of them. The DP setting and Stability wouldn't matter because there are enough people in the French countryside to provide adventerous people for the colonies.
2. I tried to make one of the triggers be that England own a colony but it didn't work. The computer should still be able to find enough lands for the colonists. A human player should be able to do a map swap and get some info from Spain or Portugul. Otherwise the computer is out of luck and the human player should choose one of the other options.

Count Six - Your WOTR events & monarch file are looking good. I think they will be effective and better simulate the effect that the WOTR had on England in the late 1400s. I have a couple of suggestions:

1. For the Battle of Towton event, choice B leads to Henry VI reigning right to the end, followed by Henry VII & the rest of the WOTR events are slept other than Hexham, right? My concern is that choice B drops the tax value in the English provinces, but Hexham doesn't raise them back. Hence, the -1 in tax value in each province would in essence be permanent for the rest of the game. Perhaps there could be an event at the end of Henry VI's reign (same date as Bosworth) that (a) explains the succession from Henry VI to Henry VII, & (b) gives +1 tax value to the provinces that had it taken away with Towton.

2. For Bosworth, I would recommend that there be a choice for the result. A would have Henry VII win, & B would have Richard win. This would maintain the choice that the player currently has with the original WOTR event as to who wins in 1485.

3. In the monarch file, Richard Cromwell still has the 8/8/9 stats that his father had.

Overall they are looking very good. I will shortly post a couple of suggestions with respect to DP changes due to the events. One of my main goals for England is to have events drive the DP settings in an historical manner. I would probably recommend that the A choices in these series of events have the same DP effects as the effects for the two WOTR events in the current EEP download (stretched over the new WOTR events). Does that make sense?

Fair enough. For the new events you posted, my one concern is with the explorer that 21088 gives England. I have worked with the English events & leader files to minimize the potential of England to construct a large colonial empire in the 1500s. Part of this has been eliminating two English explorers (Willoughby & S. Cabot). Adding an explorer due to owning France would help England explore & colonize earlier. If England has captured all of France, the last thing they need is more help on the colonial end of things. Getting a French explorer in the 1600s would be no problem, but getting one in 1540 could create a balance issue.

Fair enough about the explorer, I was trying to make the first option more palatable and even with the other options which gave +3000 people and changed culture i have altered it so that option A leads to +3000 population also.

RepublicofGenoa - This event set looks good. I'll see if anyone else has any comments/suggestions in the next bit, but I will include them in the next EEP British Isles submission.

By the way, I remember you asked me a while back to include your Guinness event. If you want to, you can post it here again to allow comments on it. There is another Irish event that improves the economy of Meath that I'm thinking of suggesting for inclusion, so perhaps the two would be complimentary.

I intended it for game-balance. Bosworth raises tax value +1, regardless of the path after Towton. With the "Yorkist" path, the player/ai gets faster revenue growth (and some infrastructure also) because he gets the temporary "Clarence" revenue increase as well as the permanent "Bosworth" increase, but at the cost of repeated stab hits and revolt risk. With the "Lancaster" option, the player/ai gets lower income, since Bosworth merely compensates the loss from Henry VI's misgovernment; but on the other hand, there are no stab/revolt penalties. So in other words, the Yorkist option is high-risk/high-yield, the Lancaster option is safe but low-yield.

My theory is that a "Lancastrian" succession into the 16th c. rules out the administrative and fiscal innovation of the Yorkist and Tudor dynasties - the late-medieval status quo prevails, with a weaker, poorer monarchy. No pain, no gain. On the other hand, what used to be called the Tudor "New Monarchy" comes at the price of labor pains - in the form of the WotR instability.

I've added an event called "The Lancastrian Succession" in July 1483, which explains this alternate history and, to ameliorate the Lancastrian "revenue penalty" slightly, adds +1 stability.

I really like the differences between a Yorkist & Lancastrian path. However, according to choice B of the Towton event, the Bosworth event is slept. That shouldn't be that big a deal, though, with the "Lancastrian Succession" event. Good point about a "Lancastrian" succession into the 16th c. & a poorer monarchy as well.

I'd like to hold off on this. What I have in mind is a complete "Plantagenet 16th c." succession, which will take some work - it doesn't seem very satisfying for Richard to win at Bosworth but to take the consequences no further than 1509 and Henry VIII. After all, the existence of the Tudor dynasty is a pretty important factor for English history in the 16th c, and its not too far-fetched to spin several important differences off from Richard winning in 1485. But until I finish this event tree, I'd just as soon leave Bosworth fore-ordained - once this project is done, I can patch the Bosworth event with a action_b option leading to all the rest of it.

I am very interested to see how this develops. I had thought that having the Tudors assume the throne by the time of Henry VIII was necessary for the future historical flow of England, but I would definitely be interested if there is a way to have a Lancastrian succession & maintain at least some of the flow of English history. I'll include the current WOTR events you've created with fore-ordained Bosworth Field event in the next EEP British Isles submission, and go from there.

Also, just to let you know, I'll post some DP suggestions for your WOTR events tomorrow.

Here is one of the most important events in the history of man.

I figure the brewery wouldn't help England as much as it would help Eire.
