Under ottoman Empire 1805-1846
After the napoleonic exit from the country and a hard civil war, Mehmet Ali Will govern the ancient Egypt. The people was not very Happy with the turks, but there were not revolts. The jedive Muhammad al-Alawi made a govern with the soldiers and the intelligentsia. The soldiers leader was the general Nagi, a commandant that want the modernitation of the old country thinking the pressures of european nations over África.
The liberal al-Biblawi was autoritarian but he believed like Nagi.
The firsts steps were the agrarian
reform and the contacts with the devil european powers.
Palace of al-Gawhara
In august 1841, in secret, the foreign ministers of France and Russia, met with the jedive in imperial Palace al-Gawhara of El Cairo. The ottomans didn't know the ambitions from the jedive, but one year before they threathen with the war if Egypt didn't give the province of Syria. In january first, 1846, defeated, the ottomans gave independence to Egypt. This was a Great day.
