I have a Steam account (used it to buy Empire Total War). However, I downloaded EIC through Gamers Gate. Can I now register my EIC with Steam?

We have updated our Community Code of Conduct. Please read through the new rules for the forum that are an integral part of Paradox Interactive’s User Agreement.
You can't register it to Steam in that you'll be able to download it from them. You can however add it to your game list so that you can use Steam in-game. Go to your games list and at the very bottom below the list you should see "Add non-Steam game". You'll then see a shortcut listed there so you can load it up through the application as well.

At the top of this page you are looking at, there is a heading "My Games/Registrations". If you click on that there is a space under East India Company for you to register your game.
As far as I know, this is not possible (at least yet)
I have started a query on tech forum (link); a friendly community person is apparently investigating the issue.
