Update 04/24/2007:

What has happened this time? As We had said in Our last post, France focused on building up some colonies and a stronghold in the far east in order to make this region a part of Our holy empire as well!
Unfortunately We were drawn into a war with the Ming who had attacked our ally Spain so We weren't able to stay as peaceful as we wished to be.
This war made Us move some of Our homeland cavalry and army forces into the Chinese territory in order to crush those villains far back into their mainland as you might see in the picture shown below.
As the Ming don't seem to like settling a peace treaty with a European nation this war will probably last a long time and will cost lots of (Ming) lives, We are afraid.
Nevertheless We hope that We'll at least gain the yellow marked provinces from this conflict so that Our soldiers won't have died for nothing but fame and glory.

As you might have noticed there is also some yellow arrow directing to Japan.
This is because that was Our original idea when We started to found a colony on Taiwan which is supposed to be Our naval and army base to become the ruler of this far east region.
From there We plan, after the Ming war will have been over, to start an attack on Japan itself and making their provinces part of Our own nation to increase Our income and prestige.
Hopefully We will be able to succeed at this very difficult task!

The next picture shows Our colonies on Java. As you might note, We decided it to be wise to share that island with Our Austrian friends in order to strengthen Our, so far, eternal friendship and alliance as We consider that alliance to be a very important part of Our strategy to success.

The next two pictures will probably show you why We need Our Austrian allies:

On the one hand there is Cologne which is being ruled by a very wise and noble king (Mavs) who has been doing very well during our last game session.
He not only added some minor provinces in Germany to his nation by buying them for cold hard cash but even annexed almost all Middle-American territories with all their gold income and economical power.

This, in addition with the political situation in Central Europe, can easily turn into a very dangerous threat even to Our mighty nation as there're are now 5 major nations (Great Britain, France, Cologne, Austria and Russia) that are all capable of raising huge armies and probably willing to fight to the bitter end if necessary.
The sixth nation We might have to be worried about is Spain. Their problem is, though they have a huge colonial empire in South America, that they don't seem to get along with some rebels that have risen and even formed the good ol' Castille and therefore won't be able to draft an army which could threaten Our southern border armies. Moreover We have been allied with them for ages and don't think that they would risk a war with Us as they would probably not be able to win anything but the risk of losing some important provinces in Spain. Anyways, you can never tell if they might not return into the circle of European superpowers within only a couple of years so that things are likely to become very...interesting to deal with.

Vive la France et au revoir!

i foresee the implosion of the Russia Empire as it collapses under its own weight, since i cant expand west nor east the time has come too play another country.

I cant expand east because of Ming and the unstoppable horde of Cavalry men and if i try too go east the big bully-alliance of France-Austria will just keep me at bay, therefore i might choose another nation too be my avatar on this wretched savegame :(

Update 04/25/2007:

The war with Ming has been successful! The pictures below shows Our new vassal, the ancient nation of Ming!

After this victory it would have been unfair to Our victorious troops to not give them another enemy whom they could fight! So We decided to start Our attack on the Japanese evil whom We'll make understand that they cannot refuse living under the French banner. How the war is going is shown in the picture below. As you see Our Ming allies help Us to conquer the foolish Japanese ally Korea while Our troops are making their way into Japanese territory. We hope that they'll be successful and bring glory to the reputation of Our French army!

Meanwhile Colognian forces seem to take over all Middle-America which starts to worry Us but as We respect the free will of nations, We decided not to disturb their plans and therefore not defended Spain.

Vive la France et au revoir!

Hail the Emperor of Russia for he is soon master of his of people, ruler of the steppes and lord over the vast space of land that is Sibir!

We have been watching in fear as the European warmongers gobble up nation after nation, enslave people too work for them instead of their own king!

The one mighty nation of China now marches under the banner of France and even as we speak, Japan is falling too the wig headed attackers but there is nothing we can do, with the wealth of the whole North American continent backing France, a struggle would be worthless since the French know how too fight with musket and pike like no other and the Emperor is very reluctant too throw the lives of his fellow soldiers too waste.

In Europa nothing has changed, the Austrian banner flies over many a nation, all for the sake of god and lord.
Cologne is trading provinces with the French king left and right, his intention with this is a clue too our Emperor but they will need too be watched
Spain is in a personal union with Portugal and at war with Cologne which is trying too gobble up the central and south Americas.

Even our great and noble nation has fought in the years that has passed, with China for control of Siberia, a war that cost us dearly because of the hordes that the China men were throwing at us.
Countless men died at the battle of Argyn, the biggest battle that the world has ever seen, 40 thousand Chinese with spear and horse versus 35 thousand brave, Russian, men armed with musket and pike.
The battle raged for two months, multiple battles were fought, countless men lost in battle and disease but the Chinese horde pressed on, even if the Russian army fought like one man it was meaningless.
The Russian army retreaded out of Siberia in an attempt too starve the chinese horde but for some reason, not a single trooper died in the fierce winter that followed.

We were saved when France declared war in an attempt too vassalize the mighty nation of China and that they did...but some criticize the French king for the low gains and the huge cost that this war put on the French people .

This is the year of 1645, Russia is twenty years from celebrating its victory over the tartars and the start of the Empire.

Your best wishes, the glorious Tzar Vasiliy VI of Russia

Update 04/29/2007:

The French would like to announce that the French people happily welcomes its new friends (...and vasalls) the people of Japan and Spain. We have to thank Our troops for being victorious again and mourn upon the loss of 70000 of Our soldiers who lost their lives in the glorious battles in Spain and Japan where we were successful at beating Our foes.

Those nations decided to become a part of Our patrimony in order to stand the test of time side by side with the great nation of France.

To Us it seems that the world is more and more divided into several blocks each block being led by one of the four superpowers Great Britain, France, Austria and Russia. The question is whether these blocks will continue living next to each other in friendship and peace or a big world war is rising on the horizon of future time. In Our humble opinion it's not even possible to say what the alliances in such a world war would be. Right now each superpower is connected to at least two other superpowers in some way so that there's quite some variety of possible combinations of alliances. That is why We feel like the nation of France has no other choice but to build new troops again to secure its multiple borders. Also it will be very interesting to see whether the nation of Cologne will turn into a economical AND military superpower within the next decades or will be crushed to pieces being in the middle between the Franco-Austrian blocks.

In the end We would like to inform the world that the Russians don't seem to be very thankful people. Honouring Our alliance with Russia We and Our allies helped them in a war against the Mandschu and Korea and what was Our benefit from this noble deed? Nothing! The Russians made the Mandschu their vassals and didn't even thank us afterwards! We will keep that well in mind and the Russian king will no longer be allowed to spend his vacation on Our beautiful beaches along the Cote d'Azur! May his selfish royality go to Sibir in order to relax and get lost in some woods, if he likes to! The french people indeed will never ever host even a single Russian again as long as these cold-hearted people treat their so called alliance "friends" like that!

Fortunately there are still some nations in the world who, unlike the Russians, know what "friendship" means! With regard to that We like to thank Our British friends for having helped Us in Our struggle against Spain and assure them that We will not interfere if they take what belongs to them - the ancient nation of Gondwana which controls almost the entire Indian subcontinent.

Vive la France et au revoir!

I've been waiting for a long while to read a MP AAR and the joyful day has come, thank you! It is very entertaining!

I must note though, that it is one hell of a scary France and I would advise to recreate some balance by uniting against it and cutting off a few parts that don't really belong to it *grins*

Also, why isn't anybody interested in Italy?

THat is a scary France, you own a hell of a lot and have spain japan and ming as your vassals!

If a worldwar insued i would be greatly, greatly interested. Not really sure who would ally with who however.

you want my estimate? the world vs Russia since..well...i seem too be the bad boy in this picture, even if i have less vassals then "All mighty France" and since my diplomatic skills aren´t that great even if it would be world war i think i would just sit quietly since my land tech is miles and miles away from ol frenchie

It lies in the will of the Tzar that the eastern part of the royal hegemony should be secure from attack, that is now solved and if that is not in the will of the French king then We regret it but our safety goes before yours!
What is noble in fighting the less fortunate? You shouldn´t talk about "freedom" my French friend, we have been taught your "freedom" when you defended the unlawful seizing of Russian farmers lands in the Lithuanian commonwealth, you have no other guide then greed and "glory" in this world

We regret that We called you friends, "allies", this will be changed!
Our allies might not be as strong or cunning when it comes too warfare but it is better too die standing then to live kneeling!
If you see this as an "attack" then so be it! We will not serve any other ruler then the Tzar!

Your most humble servant, Ambassador Dimitri Mikhailov

We would like to inform the Tzar that, even though his words hurt Our vulnerable feelings, We have no interest in going to war and take his land...yet. So We will ignore his words and not take them as a casus belli. Nevertheless We want to remind the Tzar that he should not talk about dying while standing too much as this could result in his many thousands of soldiers doing so after having been hit by some French bullets or slain by the sharpened swords of Our superior cavalry men!
But, as We have said before, We still consider the Russian people as Our friends and therefore understand that their actions are just driven by the need of security and peace.
For this reason and to proove Our words as true, We would like to announce to the Russian Tzar that We, unlike in the past, now would not interfere, if the Russian people took its part in Middle-Europe by helping the Lithuanians become a member in the great family of holy mother Russia.

Vive a France et au revoir!

@ Ar7 I'm not sure that I like your words with regard to the unification and cutting off ideas. ;-)
Italy hasn't been taken yet as this would, probably, result in a war if either Austria or France took its provinces. It's kind of an un-outspoken agreement between us not to take their land, I guess. At least I consider it that way...

(am looking forward to our today's game session in a few hours!)

Update 05/01/2007:

WAR!

An alliance consisting of France, Great Britain, Cologne and Frances vasalls Spain, Modena (Modena has been attacked by France before and was made its vasall), Ming, Japan and some other Minors declared war on the allied nations of Austria, Russia, Mecklemburg and the Ottomans.

Here I will give a report on the war action only from the French point of view:

The hostilities started in 1657 when 72000 French soldiers crossed the southern borders of Austria into its Italian provinces and 84000 French soldiers moved into the region of the Netherlands which had been ruled for over 150 years by the Austrian kings.
In other regions of the world 6000 cavalry men fought for the liberation of Java and another 24000 cavalry men crossed the Austrian borders of their North American provinces.

The French soldiers were quite successful in the Netherlands as they crushed any Austrian resistance within a very short time and, with the help of some Colognian forces, conquered those provinces.
Unfortunately the battles along the southern front in Italy weren't that easy to win as Austria had put the majority of its troops into that region.
The French armies won some battles, lost some battles and weren't able to push forward into Austrian heartland without being in danger of getting encircled and then annihilated.
Even worse a brave Austrian army made its way into France itself moving between the Northern and the Southern front through Lorraine right into the heart of France, the Ile-de-France!!! On the streets there was panic and fear when the Austrian soldiers broke through the city walls of Paris and rushed into the inner city! It was a horror one cannot imagine if he wasn't there!
Though some thought due to French propaganda that the Austrians would start a massacre and slay the entire population it is now known that they behaved like gentlemen and knights are supposed to and didn't do any harm to the citizens. Nevertheless some citizens died during th siege and the mourns of their families haven't stopped yet.
A short while after the fall of Paris a French army from the Netherlands arrived and forced the Austrian army out of Ile-de-France. Afterwards it followed the fleeing Austrians and, in the end, wiped them out.
Having lost the entire Netherlands, some parts of Italy, Java and Texas and a large part of its army Austria had no choice but to accept a peace offered by France.
The conditions with regard to France were that France would get the 6 provinces in the Netherlands marked below.

Besides that Austria had to cede some Caribbean islands to England and two provinces in the Netherlands to Cologne. Russia didn't neither gain nor lose a province.
All in all France lost about 60000 to 80000 soldiers in this war and the losses of its allies and foes are unknown.
Thanks to the French Army this war has to be considered as a success from the French point of view that will be celebrated for a long time we think!

Vive la France et au revoir!

"We have ruled Russia for as long as man has walked the earth, it was We who took us out of the cold and into the warm, burning fire of glory, it was We who battle the tartars, the crimeans, the ottomans, the french, the sibireans and lately the china men.
Ours is a nation of conflict, ours is a nation of unity, ours is a nation of freedom.
The long days of serfdom is no more, since the only enemy that can destroy us comes from within, the aristocracy will feel the power of the people and the Tzar will watch...for his will is the will of the people!

This war is a direct consequence of French aggression worldwide, We believed that the Brittani king would take his chance and attack, instead We were betrayed and with the swift stroke of the pen, this war became futile.
Since the french warmonger fails too see the light this war will be for infinity, for Russia cannot fall as long as its people is brave and standing!

There will be no peace, no negotiation, no cease-fire.

The only constant in this war will be the Russian people´s will too live free from the french yoke that has blackened the earth that we live on and if the so called "king" of England is such a fool that he would rather ride with doom then against it, that is god´s will then!

We have no near the economical power of the french, We have no near the expertise of fighting with musket and pike but brave men at least fight instead of watching as history resolves around them

Now dear men! the heartland of Europe awaits us!
I will not pour honeyed words down you ears and say that this is an easy fight,
We: the nations of Russia and Austria stands against much of the known world:
France, England, Cologne, Spain, Portugal, China, Japan:
Our enemies are so numerous that they blacken the skies but Our will will not falter!
Your Will must not falter for the French king rides with Death, Pestilence and War!
Know this that it is Louis who has attacked US: He is the aggressor, the destroyer of worlds and lives!
Good honest men can not stand idle by as our Allies and brothers in arms are slaughtered at the battlefields of Belgium and Italy, if We are too survive as a free and noble people:
We must fight! We will fight! We shall stand the test of time!"

Dear Joseph III and Boris I, mes amis,

We regret to inform you and the public of your countries that We, the French king Louis XVI himself, no longer are in charge of Our armies!!! After having signed the peace treaty with the alliance around Austria We were arrested in Our Chateau at Versailles by troops of the evil Cardinal Richelieu, the warmongering traitor who seeks control over all Europe! We are accused of having betrayed the principles of France and the will of the French people by having stopped this bloody war and not having moved further into the enemy territories!
In order to give Our royal relatives in Austria and Russia the chance of preparing for the French storm that will soon hit Central Europe (again) and Russian land itself, We told the last of Our loyal servants who haven't been imprisoned or even killed yet by Richelieus ill-minded fellows to steal Richelieus plans and send them to you.

I hope that this will help you to set up a line of defense as We feel guilty for what this France We so much loved once has turned into!

By the way: We're not sure if Cardinal Richelieu has already talked to Great Britain yet and if they support his plans. Anyways, it seems as if he planned having them at his side but being kept here, We can't tell if he's right with that.

Au revoir mes amis et bonne chance!

- Louis XVI, Roi de la France et du monde francais

P.S.: I hear steps...may God be with Us all...

Dear Tzar, dear King of Austria,

I'm sorry to tell you that our king Louis XVI got some mental issues and will be away for a while in order to recover from his "problems" by spending some time in a quite spot on the Cote d'Azur.

Therefore I would like to inform you, that I have, in his name, taken over the control of our state affairs as long as our great king Louis XVI will not be able to do so.

May we all live long, peacefully and in prosper, my eternal friends!

- Cardinal Richelieu, Deputy Chief of State

You are wrong if you imply that We would fall for such a ploy?! The french king is always in charge, even if he is away on "vacation".
The french people is known for their love of freedom and liberty, should you be so foolish as too sever the french king hold on the people scary things can happen, your rich burghers will soon want a way too control the state and when they are not given it...revolution awaits and you would not want that, would you?
One day the world will be free, if not by my nations hand then by someone else´s and when that day comes...have faith.
