Is there a mod or way of making the game open ended so that it does not end at the predetermined time?

I would like to know this too. Even though I know it's done for historical reasons, I dislike that the game ends itself. 
It's possible, but you'll have to edit the game file (rome.exe), which is not the kind of thing Paradox wants us to do. It means you forfeit technical support.
