Stalin must be furious ! :D
I'm eagerly waiting for Operation Downfall.

I was right! You did meet up with the soviets in Warsaw. The reason Belgium can't be liberate is that they still exist - check south Africa. Good luck restoring order to Europe, then the world!

Need some help with the diplomacy that happens at teh end of the war in Europe.

We're making headway in the Balkans, trying to sew up all that we can.

An unexpected event. Germany surrenders (not sure to who) . . . not how it worked in my only other '44 game. I was expecting to have to chase the Germans down to their last province - which I had expected to be Graz (they had conveniently jumped there and were surrounded by US and UK held provinces.
US44-86V-Eday27Sep44.jpg

What does this mean? Did the US ever have an opportunity to annex Germany? If so how would i know?
US44-87what.jpg

Not only did Stalin get Graz when Germany surrendered, the new country "Austria" gets two other provinces.

How does the US give provinces to Denmark and Belgium? They are not allies. Do I give the provinces to UK who will then give to the "free" countries?

There is a US garrison division stuck in (neutral) Athens. How does that get out?

US is very poor, has been all game (this is crazy), so we are unable to return all the provinces we'd like as quickly as possible. What's the REAL risk of revolt in those Polish/French/Belgian provinces that haven't been returned?

Poland was created by the USSR with a single province. Suggestions on what I shuold do with all the rest? Will the UK give the Polish provinces it controls to communist Poland?
US44-89Austria.jpg

We're still at war with Bulgaria and Finland! US troops have taken a small chunk of Finland and British led troops are swarming Bulgaria. What's the best way to end this? Sue for peace with Finland?

Disturbing situation...
IMHO it would be a good idea to sue for peace with the Finns.

Freedom for the countries of Europe. (Note, Rumania was annexed by UK, Soviets created a 2 province Communist enclave. This situation is going to make the "Warsaw Pact" look a bit odd.)

Helsinki falls to Field Marshal Eisenhower.

Finland comes to an agreement with Stalin. Looks like we can create a puppet - or is a neutral Finland better?

Even patton would have second thoughts looking at those stacks of Soviet divisions lined up along the frontier (stay tuned for pictures at 11.). Having a few nukes in my back pocket would make me feel like I was better prepared for a fight with the bear.

Japanese, in the Baltic!

Battle of the Inland Sea, 4 Nov 1944. This is when I wish naval battle would be a little more decisive, more like, you know, historical. Japanese fleet returned to port, then back out, then to port, then back out . . .

So far the only Japanese CV sunk is Hosho, and that was a couple of months ago.

Time for an election, we will not change horses.

A series of screen shots, all taken 16 Nov 44.

Luckily those are stacks of divisions, not Corps or Armies. Communist Poland is 1 province, Rumania has 2.
US44-96Borders16Nov44.jpg

Should I release the FRG puppet strings? What's the advantage of doing that, do they build troops faster? How best to deal with Allied occupied Poland? Is there a NATO event?

How do I get Italy and Turkey to become allies (playing the US not UK)?

The IJN is elusive. They have a couple of CVs down Indonesia way that have embarrassed me a few times. It's not safe to ship troops unless I have 4-5 CVs with them.
US44-97Pacific16Nov44.jpg

It may have been a mistake to land on both ends of the home islands, but I don't want Stalin getting his hands on Japan. I'll need to ship more troops If I want to take China, or maybe I can make Japan surrender and get them to hand over the provinces. But just how doe sthat work?

VP count is going our way.

Inflicted losses, 100th screen shot of this game.

Quite funny, the allies-soviet "border" is almost the same as the one between the axis and the soviet in june 41. :D

create free poland! you mustn't allow stalin to have a propaganda weapon of you being german/fascist lover for freeing germany to soon!

But how is that done? It isn't listed in the countries I can "liberate" (Algeria and Philippines)?

9 US carriers vs 4 Japanese, repeatedly, but we can't sink a darn one!

How embarrassing, the KM made it all the way to the Pacific. Embarrassing for the game designers or the player? Had I known this was even remotely possible I would have been trying to stop it. At least the Russians didn't get them. Strange how they show up as Japanese designs.

Lutzow and later Gneisenau are put to rest.
US44-103Lutzow17Dec44.jpg

Finally - but how do you build them? Can't find anything under the production tab. Shouldn't this be explained in the manual?
US44-104WMD.jpg

You can't create Poland because it exists, as a communist puppet - your only hope is to conquer it.

As for nukes, to build nukes, you have to have the tech you researched, as well as a lvl6 nuclear reactor, which you can build under province improvements, same place where air bases, radar stations and so forth are.

Had the max level 5 reactor, am now building to the new max of 7. They don't make building nukes easy.

Is there a table (or something) somewhere that shows what size reactor size you need to build which kind of bombs?

The sun is setting on the Japanese Empire. Borneo, Java, all of the Philippines (liberated), Taiwan, the Central Pacific islands have all fallen. The British have all but kicked Japan out of Burma and are advancing on Siam. Only China and Korea remain solidly under Japanese control.

New Englanders (US 26th Inf Division) once again take ground. Meanwhile General Gerow's armor pushes into the Japanese capitol.
US44-105japan.jpg

I'm checking the diplomacy tab regularly to see what shows for Japan. Will a surrender "event" pop up or can I catch something first in diplomacy? What should I be expecting? Should I take the first surrender offer? Will japan make a second offer? Can you make counter-offers? I want the USSR to get as little as possible out of a Japanese surrender.
