I am using the American version, 1.00, with a tbird 1.2 ghz, 512 mb ram, and have editted no files. I'm using windows Me.

OK - have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game? If so then try redownloading the patch.
So now you're an official driver? Congratulations!
As for the patch, you could always try to back up your save games, then uninstall HOI, reinstall, and then immediately apply the patch. Should work.
Something else to try is to download the patch from an alternate site. The NA 1.01 patch is available from both paradox and Strategy first web sites, the links are both in the Patch thread at the top of this form. It should not matter but...

After a few hours on the defibrillator, an da reinstall, I can assure ou it worked.
