Errors while laoding the 1.06 patch..help please.

Just bought the hard copy of EIC at Best Buy. After loading, the game automaticly starts and detects that patch 1.06 is available and asks if I would like to install the patch now. I say yes. The patch unzips and i extract all files to the desk top. I double click the exe file for the patch and it begins to install. About 60% of the way through an error message appears stating:

"Delete File failed, code 5
Access denied"
File - Paradox\east india company\RakNet.dll
error occured trying to replace the existing file"

I click retry... nothing.. so I click ignore (not recommended) and the install continues. I get the same error 5 more times for the following files and I have to ignore to get past them:

NGMultiplayer.dll
RakNet.dll
eastindia.exe
fmod.dll
stlport.5.1.dll
storm3dv2.dll

When I restart the game, on the main menu screen, it now shows version 666.0. I don't know. The game runs but this is very disturbing to a computer neophite like me. Is this correct? Should I have done anything diffenently? Advice needed.

Are you installing the patch as same user as the game? Is this user an adminsitrator? Is this Vista with its freakish data protection systems or old good winxp?

Hi,
you should try to re-install the patch and make sure that the game is NOT running while you install the patch. Just use the same patch-installer that you have on your desktop or if it would be corrupted for some reason, get a new one from here:

I still have the patch exe file on my desk top. I will run an install again with out the game running. Hope that works. I don't think this is a vista problem as I have tons of games and they all perform fine.
