There's an event series when you're imprisoned that alerts you that friends have smuggled in rope. You only have the option of going ahead and trying to escape, at which point it appears you either fail, or succeed. The fail has them putting you simply back in your sail, and the success is titled FREEDOM! and gives you 10 prestige and says "character is released". However, you don't actually ever get released.
