Ahhh, this reminds me of anonymous4401's AAR Secrets of the AARk

Anyone else remembers it?

It is not over, but I have some troubles with my save games.
More info coming soon!

Looking forward to it. If you can do a WC with Ethiopia... Then there is virtually no challenge left for you in AoD :D Other than starting a carribbean OPM perhaps.

Great job! I find that technique (concentrating your troops to kick out the attackers before they have time to mass a real attack) really good when playing Communist China, though there's not many nations that put you in a position where you need it.

I *think* I got the save back! Can continue my game on tuesday.

January 1938:

We start thinking about our next steps. What to do? It is clear that we should not only at africa, but also oversea. We start building a TP.

Partisans in our country are a real pain in the rear, literally. We have spread our divs everywhere and still our TC is in deep red. Maybe have to build some police units later. No, wait, we still lack the '36 INF tech for that. Dang.

February 1938:

No important events.

March 1938:

Mar 23: Germany annexes Austria! Europe is in turmoil!

April 1938:

We move our units from Somalia towards Ethiopia. Partisans activity is annoying. Since our intelligence is unable to deal with them, funding is completly cut, research set to 90% instead.

May 1938:

May 22: Our TP is ready, but Ras Seyum, Chief of the navy, found a small oversight in our plan: The ship was build in Addis Ababa - and we have by no means any kind of transport to move it to the coast, so the ship cannot be deployed. Not good for our TC at all. After some serious arguing who is to blame for this disaster (it turns out the royal hunting dogs had distracted the responsible bureaucats), workers are ordered to dig a pool in the royal gardens. Next production: 2 AC for our remaining MIL units and some infrastructure in Addis Abeba.

June 1938:

All quite.

July 1938:

Jul 13: An Italian ambassador arrives. He proposes a peacy treaty, demanding that we cede Âdwa to Italy. His majesties answer is shown in the royal garden: Several tins of spaghetti are grouped together spelling "NO". The diplomat leaves unhappy.

Jul 20: Our last AC Brigade is completed. With some rearrangement, Ogaden is now the only province left with active partisans (1% RR).

Jul 29: A miracolous breakthrough inspires our advance on human wave tactics. It is said that the royal hunting dogs inspired a leading scientist. Their guilt for the transport ship desaster is therefore null and void. Good boys.

August 1938:

Nothing new.

September 1938:

Ditto.

October 1938:

Oct 8: Human Wave Doctrine finished, Large Front Doctrine research started.

November 1938:

*yawn*

December 1938:

Dec 2: Our factory in Addis Ababa is finished, starting construction of another one.

Dec 14: Christmas comes early this year: Somalia offers us plans for a Great War Hospital System.

January 1939:

The first year without armed Italian soldiers (te-he-he-he) on our precious soil. But things in Europa look bad. Pretty bad. If Hitler continues, there could soon be war.

Jan 17: His majesty signs a new law, giving the parlament more power (1 slider move towards democratic). With this, our country is now seen as social conservative instead of a paternal-autocrat.

Jan 22: Our fist factory is now 100% operational. We start the construction of an HQ and stet infra priority to level 2.

Jan 30: Since the new factory drains our ressource stock piles - we sign a trade agreement with France: 1,4$ for 5 energy and another 5 metal.

February 1939:

Feb 9: Trade agreement with Siam: 0.3$ for 0.7 rare materials.

Feb 12: To compensate our money losses, research is reduced to 85%.

March 1939:

Mar 15: Germany annexes Czecheslovakia! Herr Hitler is really pushing it...

Mar 19: Japan signs a white peace with the Guangxi Clique: They return to Status Quo.

Mar 24: Germany claims Memel!

Mar 26: Italy sends an ultimatum to king Zog of Albania and even before a proper answer can be made, they decleare war! Our hearts are with the poor people of Albania! May it become a second Ethiopia for the Italians!

Mar 30: Due to the recent events, Great Britain guarantees the independence of Poland and invites them to join their alliance. Poland accepts.

April 1939:

Apr 1: Italy offers a white peace. We accept. Happy April Fool's Day!

Apr 22: Italian units seize Tirana, King Zog has to flee, Albania is annexed.

Apr 30: Infra priority reduced to level 1, due to mountains the additional spending seems to be rather ineffective. Raising consumer goods investments instead.

May 1939:

*zzz*

June 1939:

Jun 1: We hear reports of tension along the russian-japanese border.

Jun 7: Coup d'état in Nico... Nica... Nigu... You know, some country somewhere far, far away.

Jun 23: Pool in the royal gardens is finished. The glorious Ethiopian navy may now deploy at our capital! JOIN THE NAVY TODAY! (Area of operation limited.)

July 1939:

No news of importance.

August 1939:

Aug 4: Our second factory is finished. We start building a third one, but for now we will have to switch our IC towards consumer goods.

Aug 11: Coup d'état in Bol... Bal... Boliv... Arg, why can't these countries have a proper name?

Aug 24: We have reports of a soviet-german agreement signed today, called the "Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact". We are not 100% sure what this means, but it sounds like some sort of foreshading...

Aug 30: The south african prime minister resigns.

September 1939:

Sep 1: We have received irregular radio bulletins from Radio Warsaw reporting that german army units crossed the border and invaded polish territory. These reports are unconfirmed, but could fit well into the persuited german strategy.

Sep 2: Yesterdays radio report was indeed true. Royal radiomen receive continuous messages from several stations. The powder keg in europe has once again gone off.

Sep 3: We interrupt our regular radio broadcast to bring you this important news bulletin from BBC in London! "...tish Ambassador in Berli ... ded the Germa ... nment a final note stating tha ... less we hear from them by 11 o'clo ... ey were prepared at once to withdr ... ops from Poland, a state of war would exi ... en us. I have to tell you now that no such unde ... ceived, and that cons ... tly this country is at war with Germany..."

Sep 15: German radio reports that Warsaw is now under german control.

Sep 17: Soviet units advance into Poland from the east, occupying several provinces.

Sep 20: Latvia surrenders it's territory to the soviet union.

Sep 22: With their army routed and all major cities occupied, Poland has no chance but to surrender to Germany! His majesty states that the current war could be useful for our own intensions.

Nice. Question, are you continuing this in 1.03 or still 1.02?

I think that starting out with basic construction engineering makes a difference for Ethiopia: troops are able to dig in from the get go.

October 1939:

Oct 28: Oletta Military Academy increases its skill level! We now have a level 3 tech team! For great science! (It works!)

November 1939:

Nov 6: Altmark incident in Norway.

Nov 18: The Soviet Union declares war on Finland! The Winter War has started!

Nov 22: Sweden sends material and volunteers to aid their brothers, but remains neutral otherwise.

December 1939:

Despite heavy soviet commitment, the finnish army is so far able to hold its lines. Soviet troops have not gained any ground so far.

Dec 17: We move one step towards free market (+1.5 dissent).

Dec 31: For the world, a terrible year ends - but as it looks now, an even more horrible is about to come.

Still playing 1.2.

Mh, I don't think it was that important. The factories are much more important than the minor combat boost. :D

Happy April Fool's Day!
;)

IC is at 11 so far. Unfortunatly Adis Ababa is mountain terrain, so infra is costly and slow to build... :(

Is building in Jima(sp?) worth it? Or since you will not get a resource bonus it is a waste of IC (for now)?
