Simply put, the game will not start unless I re-install it. I can't restart my system without having to re-install the game completely. My systems specs are as follows :

O/S : Windows 98
CPU : AMD-K6-2 300
Memory : 5.59 GB, 803 MB free
Video Card : ATI Rage Pro Turbo 2X
CD-ROM : Sony CD-ROM CDU701-F
No Ethernet Card, and I have read and tried the posted advice.

Am I correct to assume you have the latest patch?

What is it doing exactly, a crash? A black screen? Anything else?

In any case, you should try to reinstall Windows or DirectX 8.1. Start with DX, if it's a no go, reinstall Windows. It could be a DLL that got screwed up by something, or you could have a virus/trojan horse on your comp. Have you done a scan with a recent AV software lately (less than a week?)

When I try to run it, it gives the standard loading icon (hourglass/CD-spinning/etc.) then stops a few seconds later with not indication of ever having been run. I've re-installed Direct-X twice now, with no luck, along with the latest patch. I'm confident it isn't a virus, but I'll try that anyway, along with the Windows install, and reply again with any luck.

ah I see! Try the running problems thread (you can skip the uninstall part), in particular try renaming your avi folder to AVI_BACK (or anything you want).

Disabling the sound card might help to diagnose the problem.

When you run DX Diag, does it pass all the tests?
