System specs and general outline of what I've tried so far as follows:

Asus A7V133 Motherboard (BIOS rev. 1004)
Athlon 1200 Tbird CPU
512 SDRAM
Soundblaster Live(pre-5.1 gimmick) sound card
Creative Annihilator 2 (Geforce 2 GTS, 32 Ram)video card (AGP)
HP 9510i CDRW drive

Since I've been reading about the trouble with CDRWs, I attempted the cache decrease suggestion. No dice. Turned music off, nothing. I don't have a joystick connected. When the game attempts to load, it gets as far as EU2 when I Control-Alt-Delete check it. No binkplayer, so I don't think it's that. I tried renaming the avi folder anyway. No luck. I'm sure there are other things that I haven't tried. If you've any other suggestions, I'd appreciate them. If not, thanks anyway.

Whats your OS? If it is win2k/XP, then look under "Events Viewer" both
'Application Log' and 'System Log' for EU2.exe erros. Try standart things , like disabling hardware acceleration gradually, running direct x diagnostic tools (run "dxdiag") and see if there are any conflicts. I believe you have your video and sound cards updated?
If it is your own CD, and you believe its your CD-RW causes the problem, then I think it is legal to make an image file and use some CD-ROM emulators, to run the game from hard drive.

P.S>If last part is not quite appropriate, then moderators ,please remove it,thanks:)

Okay, I just attempted to load the game without DMA support for my CD drive. Still, nothing. Thank you, though, for the suggestion. I guess eventually, in some Holmesian manner, I shall end up with the correct solution for my specific machine. Hopefully, anyway.

Well, I'v checked HP's web site and there are no new drivers for the CD (not surprising, most don't need specific drivers), nor are there any firmware upgrade.

Here are other things you might wanna try:
Upgrade your MB bios they are at version 1.07
Via 4 in 1 driver
IDE driver - note that this one is the Ultra ATA controller. It won't change anything for you CD-ROM, but while we're at it, I thouhgt you could have the latest version (it's for your Ultra-ATA hard disk drive)

I have put links to the corresponding ASUS web page instead of the file, so you just have to look for your mb model, and this way, you can read the instructions on how to update your bios.

Give me feedback, and if you need more help, let me know.
