I think I've seen this kind of thread here before or something, but is there a known problem playing EU2 with Windows Vista?

If there is, is there any solution?

In my case, I get to install it, and the first intro plays and that is about it.

I've adopted all of the "classic" interfaces with Vista, so at least on the surface it looks like some mesh of XP with Windows 98.

Anyway, I haven't had too much problem with Europa Universalis II. When I went to install it, there was a warning that there would be compatibility problems, and I couldn't get it to work worth crap, when I installed it the first time. I uninstalled it completely, installed it again, and it worked. The only thing I did different the second time was I installed the 1.08 patch (to see if it would work with that - it did), before installing the 1.09 patch. (which worked too, so it wasn't the patch first time around)

Ever since then, I've had very few problems with it, the only one being that sometimes when I click "Surrender" to finish playing a game and get out of there, it will stop responding. Not always too big of a deal, since I'm done playing anyway, but I do always make sure to have the yearly autosave going, just in case it decides to stop responding at a less opportune time...

Anyway, I don't know if my experiences will be the same as yours, but I have heard of others who couldn't get the game to work on the first install, but were able to when they tried again.

I've got a bizarre problem where it does not display saved games (They appear in the game but apparently don't exist on my computer). Any idea where they might be?

Vista moves any files written to the "c:\program files" directory structure to a virtual directory, I forget the name. You could do a whole-disk search for *.eu files I guess.

Hi everybody, I installed EU2 on Vista sucessfully, changed compatibility options to WinXP,but when it running after starting movie there is black screen and nothing is doing(((..DirectX is 9.0c, videocard -GForce 7300 SE

Is there anything solutions of this trouble??

Rename the AVI directory to anything else.

Installation Problem?

I have installed EU2 on my Vista laptop, but once installation is done, it does not load, it merely stays on the Desktop screen, I have uninstalled, re-installed, used ther 1.8 and 1.9 patches, and nothing seems to work, have also renamed avi. folder, what could possibly be the problem and solution to said problem?

We can't guarantee there IS a solution for you, as EU2 was written well before Vista was released of course.

You could try installing it NOT in the suggested directory path of c:\Program Files\... etc, but elsewhere like c:\games\... etc. And of course flag the eu2.exe file as XP compatible, as mentioned in post #12 above.

I did everything suggested in this thread, but instead of setting the compatability for Windows XP, I set it for Windows 98/Me since that was what the game was originally designed for. I ran both vanilla 1.09 and AGCEEP 1.55 with no problems whatsoever. Hope this helps!

I have a problem that doesn't seem to be mentioned here...

The intro works fine, as does the main menu. I can then try to start or load a game, but it crashes to desktop as soon as loading is completed, IE just when you'd expect to see the game screen appear.

Any ideas for this? Thanks in advance for any reply!

Nothing concrete, no. Start by renaming the AVI directory to something else like AVI-old, and check for video driver updates. You may have to reinstall Eu2.
