No Problems with XP.
If you encounter any, come back here and I will sort you out.

Who is the publisher of your version, since the publishers write their own installers I need to know in order to find out which installer it is. The publishers logo will be on the CD.

Hi, I am having the same problem with a new system running XP. The EU2 cd locks up the system no matter what I try. The logo is hard to read on the cd, but looks like Info Flames. Would appreciate any suggestions. thx
That's the distributer, not the publisher.
What does the third one say, the one in the middle?
Can you install the game and just not run it, or can you not install it at all?

1) Set the color depth to 16BIT
2) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.

Okay let's try some standard things.
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.

This is why each person should open thier own thread.
The AVI rename was a responce to the post imediately above the one that mentions the rename.
Since you said you had the same problem as the original poster my advice to him goes for you and you have not said what happened when you tried it.

Copy all the files from your CD to the Harddrive and install from there.

Here are the detailed instructions written by MrT.

Scandinavian patch installation problem

FIX Part 1: originally posted by Patric
Scandinavian EU2 installation problem (setup.inx)

This is a compatibility issue with some CD readers and the copy protection.

You can download a working file here:
http://www.paradoxplaza.com/files/patches/setup_inx.zip

Try to copy the whole installation to the hd and install from there. Put the downloaded setup.inx in the same folder and off you go. I just tested it and it works like a charm.

Don't copy the *.vpp files though

If you choose to make a custom installation and play music from the CD you will have to edit the music.ini file after installation. Just change as follows:

####My installation####

[Common]
music=c:\Program Files\Europa Universalis 2\MUSIC

####Change to####

[Common]
music=X:\MUSIC

Where X is the drive letter for your CD rom drive. After that you can delete all the installation files you copied manually from the CD.

It is recommended to to run all Paradox games in 16BIT, funny that the color depth would effect your screen size though.
I would think that more an issue with your sektop res not matching the game res.

Let me know how it goes.

No, the game-screensize is intact. The top of the loading-picture disappears when the game is loading (not scenario-loading)... This isn't a problem at all, as it doesn't affect gameplay what so ever... It's just a strange bug...
Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back. See what happens.

That happens only for very few people now.
It had been a major problem for lots of people but Johan fixed it for the majority and an AVI rename helped most others, but there are at least 3 members that still have this problem occur, at least occasionaly.

Still here, alive and kicking.
You can find the file now as an attachment in the last post in the Useful links/sites/programs sticky thread at the top of this forum.

You mentioned it was the setup file that gave you the error, can you copy the rest then use the setup file you downloaded from here, if not what other file gave you an error?
