was just wondering if you could (with reworking of the history files) just use the EU3 map in this game to make a whole world mod. I know its not quite as nice looking and isn't as proper for the games focus and time - but would it work?

Not sure if it'd work out well, but give it a shot. :D

Certainly everything about all the countries, their provinces, trade, different values that are unique to Rome in all of the provinces, etc would have to be reworked.

And you might want to limit the whole "colonizing the Americas" thing, since the Romans et al were really, REALLY bad at making ships (they got their asses handed to them over and over again in naval battles, it was just stubborness that made them win eventually. And they had loads of trouble even building a boat that wouldn't sink in the non-mediterranean waters between Gaul and Brittania).

Certainly is a worthy project for an alternative mod, since AFAIK the Rome Improved Map Project is focused on being historical and adding more land where it is actually reasonable for it (like expanding the territory further down the nile and to the east). Would be fun to have WholeworldMap + Seriously increased tech-lines (possibly adding in EU3 stuff. Certainly you could create some delay between that, since Cataphracts etc could simulate knights) + Unlimited Time. Supercampaign! :D

..I wonder how big of a blob Ming would've turned into by the time ROME reached them. >_>

EDIT: Apparently they don't use the same colours for terrain and rivers, so either recolour that stuff, or change the meanings.

I remember a comment from a RIMP developer that there is a hard-coded map size limit

Hm, any idea if this is also true for the EU3 map? That'd be useful since I'm making a fantasy-map from scratch just to get some experience in it. :D

I've had the same experience regarding the map size, however the EU3 map is of similar size to the EUR-map so provinces like Malta or even dutch provinces might be too small to be selectable. (EDIT: As a comparison, Ireland is a total of 370 pixels in EU3, and 12373 in EUR, that's more than 30 times smaller.)

EUR-size is 1960 x 1228
EU3-size is 1872 x 720

Also, as stated, there's no terra incognita, no colonization over water and no wrapping globe.

Might still be fun material for a Fantasy-style scenario though. ;)

no colonization over water.

Could always make events where you invest in a New-world colonization attempt? Like really expensive and it sets the "colony being formed by tag XXX, culture = i, religion = p", or just founds a city right away. ;)

It certainly seems possible, but that would be a heck of a lot of work! I recently picked up Romanitas by Sophia McDougall (an alternate history fiction book that looks at a modern-day world if the Roman Empire had survived) and the map in the first few pages made me wish I had the patience for such an undertaking...

I reckon it'd be great, though you'd have to fudge so many historical facts in order to fit in some countries in the Americas and Africa.
