Hi,

i was trying to play EU4 after a lomger rbeak again and the game crashes everytime i start it with the same error. I deinstalled it, deleted documents and the steam subfolder, to no avail. Updated my graphics driver and checked the crash reports:

Application: EUIV
Version: EU4 v1.37.1.0 Inca
Date/Time: 2024-05-27 14:46:26

Unhandled exception C0000005 (EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION) at address 0x0000020450E3FE06

Stack Trace:
1 (function-name not available) (+ 0)
2 (function-name not available) (+ 0)
3 (function-name not available) (+ 0)

I know that at some point before i had a full conversion fantasy mod installed, but the game does not show it running and it should not interfere after reinstallation.

Then i tried to directly start the EU4.exe and that one was working. Anyone got an idea what that is? Can i deinstall the launcher? I attached dxdiag as well.

In your clean reinstall, did you make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam EU4 or Documents EU4 locations, before installing again? If you are not 100% sure please try that. Also do add the new EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

You are saying this only happens when run from Steam then our launcher, is that right? What exactly do you see on the screen then?

You may as well update that Nvidia driver to May 2024 https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
AND unload GeForce Experience, if it is then running.

IF that doesn't help:
Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

Hi Andrew,

yes, i definately removed anything before the clean reinstall. Regarding the launcher:

You are running the game in openGL mode, which is slow and unreliable - it is only meant for diagnostic purpose, not general use. Please undo that!

Does that help at all?
