Summary

EU4 Freezes at some point during 1549

Description

Hi,

I am having an issue with my EU4 game:
I am running EU4 on Macbook Pro M2 Max chip, via Steam (account name thekladivo)
OS is Sonoma 14.5
I have the dlc pass and all dlcs active.
I play as Great Britain (started as England)
The game always freezes at some point in 1549, the cursor changes to the circle of death and I have to hard restart my mac via the hw button.
I play with all dlcs active but no mods.

I already tried to no effect:
(in-game) - stop all my units from anything they were doing (to make sure some specific battles or movements were not the issue)
(in-steam) - verify integrity of game files
(in-steam) - backup save game files, uninstall and reinstall the game
(in mac directory) - delete all cache files and restart the game

Please help!

Thank you,

Vac

Steps to reproduce

It happens whatever I do - I tried to declare wars, stop all my units and constructions, everything. Yet, the game always freezes some time between July 1 and August 31 of 1549.

Game Version

EU4 v1.37.5.0 Inca (491d)

Mac

I am attaching a save file - this is as far as I got, the game usually freezes within a month after that (regardless of autosave being enabled or disabled). Kindly please, help!

Thanks for letting me know - do you have any update from anyone? I tried Paradox Support but they just directed me here and this is it...
I don't know how to solve it, but I've been having this issue more or less all year, and I found I can quit the game without forcing a full computer restart by simulating a second desktop (swiping up with three fingers and push the desktop 2 button) which lets me exit the screen of the game when normally I can't even move to another tab, and then force quit the app from there. But I've got no clue why this happens or how to stop it, been dealing with it for ages and uninstalled the game a couple times because of it

Is there seriously no Paradox support that would be dealing with this? No answer, no nothing? This WOULD be a brilliant game if it was playable. But its not...

Have you looked at all the other bugreports about macOS crashes. Your issue is probably the same as one of those and there are a bunch of workarounds(e.g. with console commands or by running the windows version of the game on macOS)

Basically, the game (that we paid for, for years) is unplayable at the moment for MacOS users, with no fixes coming for it anytime soon as far as we can tell. I am sure that there are some lucky people out there who managed to finish a campaign or two, but I sure could not. I was recommended to play on 1.37.2 by another player, and will try that next week hopefully.

There seems to be multiple problems with the game's latest version that causes crashes. There is an issue about BYZ's special vassals, another issue about country formations, and yet another one about countries with vassals whose independence is supported getting annexed fully. In your case it seems likely that the second one is the cause of the problem. Many countries can be formed around that time period, which is also when my games usually came to an end.

I know that this is not super useful, I am just trying to contextualize the issue a bit more. I will try to update here if I can play a full campaign on 1.37.2.

If a PDX staff reads this, please do understand that going back to 1.37.2 and thus not having the latest fixes is not a solution to this problem. It is something some people has to do with how little gaming alternatives are there on MacOS, just to be able to play the one game that they used to really enjoy.

EDIT: I did manage to finish my Yemen campaign by going back to 1.37.2. So at least that seems to be working. Will be sticking to this patch until an ultimate EU4 patch is out there.
