The game crashes at random time, but whenever it crashes I see CGameState::ChangeTags(CCountryTag&, CCountryTag&) + 2508 in the stack. This particular crash was with mods, but it happens without mods as well. Another thing is I use 1.2 scale, not sure whether this is related.

Disabling mods does not remove changes they have already made to that save game file.

Does this also happen in a campaign that's never had any mods used in it?

If so it is probably the Mac bug in this game described here:

AFAIK the only workaround is to play past that point on a Windows machine, then you can move it back to the Mac. But @grotaclas can probably help you better on that score.

It looks like the crash from the bugreports. I don't think that mods matter for this crash, because it happens in the unmodded game as well. Mods might make it more or less likely to hit the conditions of the crash(e.g. by adding more country formation decisions which the AI actually is able to enact).

It might also be possible to reload the save and try again, because not all versions of the crash are 100% reproducible. IIRC there was also one player who managed to avoid the crash by using console commands to switch to the AI country and enact the country formation decision for them. But this isn't a reliable workaround, because the crash can also happen when players form a country. I think the crash depends on the circumstance in some way(e.g. where some information is stored in memory) so changing things can avoid the crash in some cases, but I don't know enough about the inner workings of eu4 and macOS to offer better workarounds. A bad workaround would be to disable all country formations(including stuff like federation nations) via mods, but that might have a big impact on your campaign. An alternative to playing on windows might be to use Linux, because this particular crash seems to be much less frequent on Linux.

If you want a sort of workaround without needing windows or linux, you can download a program called Whisky on mac which lets you run windows games and you can use this to run eu4 as if its on windows. I been using this when i play MP so i dont constantly crash, tho i hope pdx can actually fix this in a patch
