just getting back into the game after two years, i've got all the expansions since. has Paradox finally put in an "upgrade navy/replace obsolete ships" feature? it is a serious pain in the arse to have to click a million times to queue up/disband obsolete ships.

Upgrade navy is available in one of the DLCs, yes. You have to be in a port and able to afford to upgrade all ships in the fleet that have an upgrade available to use it. It sets all affected ships to 1% strength, and costs the same as if you were buying the ships new in that province. By default it is one of the buttons on the left row that looks like a ship with an up arrow to the right.

I disbanded my transport however the 50 sailors just disappeared instead of being added to the number of available sailors.
What happened to the disbanded transport sailors?
Is there some way I can add them to my total available sailors and use them for another ship?

Exploration first is a bad move for non-Iberians/non-Norway, since you will not have the range without dip tech 7 anyway, which means either fighting Portugal for islands or waiting a lot of time with a useless group.

If you want to monopolise the colonial game and Portugal has no friends for some reason, hitting them early on to get a foothold is probably not a bad opening play. Still, as England I would probably focus on crushing France first, as once France is under the thumb you're basically unstoppable anyway.

Are there any 'hidden' effects from Tolerance of Heretics or Tolerance of Heathens?

Does it increase the probability of my provinces being converted by a CoR? Are there any events associated with having a high ToH? Thanks.

Edit: I had a feeling that was a bad idea....taking the last French NI removed the counter reformation event for me. Ctrl-Alt-Del....

Depends how hidden hidden is.

Tolerance reduces unrest
Tolerance can remove reduction in income due intolerance (not sure if this is still valid with corruption)
Positive tolerance cause religious unity to be higher.

and according to wiki http://www.eu4wiki.com/Religion#Tolerance:
Tolerance of heretics of ≥ 2 will allow provinces to randomly convert to those heretic religions. The median time to happen is 5000 months, lowered by Innovative Ideas and having a neighboring province with the new religion while increased by having the Theocracygovernment type.

I'm having problems with 1.16.3, its not possible to go back to 1.16.2 though is it?

No, it isn't. You can only go back to the final version of each main patch and not to versions within patches.

Is anyone else having this issues with coast raiding? Won't take the loot and won't gib me the monies

Also on a somewhat unrelated note, I went Mzab -----> Tunis so my religion is Ibadi not Sunni, so I am able to raid Sunni coastal provinces as well...is this intended?

Thanks

Is it possible that they have a fleet pirate hunting? This will reduce your raiding capabilities and may explain the low rewards.

They just disappear in the same way that soldiers do not return to your manpower pool when you dismiss regiments.

High tolerance also makes it easier for CoRs to convert your stuff.

If you mothball them first you get 3/4 back I think.

EDIT: I went and verified this, and what happens is that you get a portion of the overflow sailors every month as the ship ticks down towards 25%. So for a Heavy, you get 10 sailors each month for 15 months, after which you can scrap them and only lose 1/4 sailors.

Honestly, not as useful as I had expected :\

Attempting the re-reconquista and i've broadly defeated Castille and Portugal although i cant stop portugal colonising as i can't core the azores.

My current position

Just wondering what my first Idea should be?

i was going to go for exploration having knocked two colonisers out(ish) but england has taken exploration and expansion, france has taken exploration and portugal might be knocking around out there. so i was thinking something alternative might be a better shout.

any advice would be appreciated

If a country has a landlocked capital, then they can only colonize province with a direct land connection to said capital, at least that used to be the case in 1.15 and before. Haven't seen changes of this in 1.16 but neither did I look specific for those.

In the above case Portugal would not be able to colonize if you have their capital landlocked.

Ideas depend on your choice.

This has not been the case for quite some time. The rule seems to be that if they have a core with access to the sea then they can colonise, regardless of whether their capital has access to the sea.

It really depends what your goals are. If you just want to complete the achievement then the colonial game is irrelevant and I would be looking at a military idea to help you finish the Iberians off (perhaps aristocratic since cavalry and shock are still key this early) and maybe administrative ideas for cheaper coring. If, however, you are planning to do more after conquering Iberia (perhaps going for other achievements) then these goals will have a bearing on your idea preferences.

Can someone explain why Aragon is fighting on the side of Burgundy in the picture below?

Some facts:
- Burgundy isn't allied to Aragon (or anyone else for that matter)
- Aragon isn't emperor, and even if they were, Burgundy isn't a part of the HRE.
- Trier (attacker) is not warned by Aragon (though Burgundy is).
- Aragon hasn't guaranteed Burgundy.
- There are no coalitions against Trier.

The only explanation I can see is that Aragon used the "force peace" option, though I can't say I've ever seen that used by the AI before. Is there any way to tell if this is the case?

Note: This isn't the first time I've seen this in this game. It's an old 1.15 campaign, so not newest patch.

Yes. Click on the fleet you wish to upgrade (remembering that it has to be in port). At the right of the screen two columns of buttons will appear. About 2/3 the way down in the first column there will be a ship with an arrow pointing up. Clicking on that will upgrade all the ships in that fleet.

(Beware: there is another button immediately above with a curved arrow pointing right. That just splits off the obsolete ships.)

There have been quite a few changes to how fleets operate, so clicking on the other buttons (especially those at the bottom) might be informative.

Hem. So, where's that "study technology" option? I can't find it (though I do have cossacks enabled).

It changed in 1.16 so you now need to unlock the first espionage idea and then you get a discount on tech cost by having an active spy network in a country which is ahead of you in tech. The larger the network and the further ahead they are then the larger the discount you get. You don't get monarch points any more.
