Hey guys,

with Mexbuild's map mod taking a little bit longer along with my boredom, I decided to work on one of my thoughts about a new map.

What if we scale a map of Europe only over the whole game map?

Major advantages:
  • The most important wars in the first half of the 20th century were fought in Europe.
  • We can allocate more than 2500(!!!) provinces over the whole European continent.
  • The more provinces, the more countries are possible (think of all the German minor states from the 19th century).
  • The larger scale would allow more realistic front scenarios.

Here is a small preview of my current work; it is on 50% zoom, so it is much more detailed in real resolution:

But I also see many problems I'd like to discuss with you:
  • No provinces of other parts of the world, so there would be no USA, Japan etc. (at least with no owned provinces; off-map-countries are still possible)
  • With no provinces outside of Europe, there are no colonies you could get resources from.
  • The scrolling of the map: as the Hoi2 engine puts the 2D map to a cylinder, you are able to scroll in horizontal direction, so I'm forced to set half of the map "out of bounds".
  • Either there is a way to manipulate the distances between the provinces (which are generated automatically by the engine) or we have to increase all unit speeds.

So what do you think about it? Is it worth to be realized?

Even though I really like your idea and to play on such a map, it's a huge task; not only to make the map itself, but also, to make something actually playable on it, so prepare to spend countless of hours for the next year, before you start spending every evening for a month and then realize how much work there's left and just give it up.

But if you do go for it, I wish you all luck and I will certainly play (and hopefully enjoy!) it!

I want to remember you that you will have to rework the hole transportation and unit system because you change the distances between the provinces. ;)

Well, I wasn't so far yet.

I know that it takes some hours, but I'm willing to invest them. Once I completed the map, I start with working on the auxiliary.

Helpers are welcome, though.

didnt the devs removed the province limit in Aod?
so you should be able to remake the whole map or just split some bigger european provinces in 2.

the hoi2 map is good but few extra provinces in europe+ northern africa would be nice but not to many like in hoi3.

Yes, there is no province limit, but AFAIK there is still a limitation to the map resolution. I don't want to put 2500 provinces in standard-scaled Europe ... all provinces would be only Utrecht-sized, or even smaller. And then put in every single province one counter ... I would give you 100 € if you still got an overview :p

Hi,

Love the idea, but seems that Mexbuild and you are working on a similar mod, so why don't you both combine your efforts and work together? Might in the end result in a better mod (synergy effect;) and would give less headache to us otherwise required to make a choice between two mods.

The problem is that we have completely different ideas of making our maps ... and furthermore, it is only an experiment ;) let's see what happens ...
