I am playing as Duke of Mar using DVIP+addon, I have rebelled against my rival, the King of Scotland and whilst fighting, the Count of Caithness declared war on me, which I was puzzled by as I have claims on them but they have none on me, but I thought that could be the reason. So then Orkney joins in and so does Norway, reasonable as they are all under Norweigan control, then Denmark joins in as they are allied I suppose.

Now I know one of the Welsh Dutchies had claims on me, so they joined, as did their allies, County of Tir Connail in Ireland. England had claims on the same county I own, so they join also!

Still, fair enough, I thought, I can understand they are all trying to get something while they can, and for their trouble I yield let caithness keep their claim, and give England the county they desire as I think it is a small price to pay for peace in the new Kingdom of Scotland, I managed to win in a counter attack before the Vikings arrived.

Now the Duchy of Munster who I have no connection to are invading also. What for? I have no money, no-one has claims on my territory and also Norway and Denmark are still not accepting peace!

I understand and actually think it's great that some of this happened, but the randoms invading me over nothing has me a bit stumped. I'm not excommunicated and they don't have claims, and I don't have claims on them either.

Is it your BB? Seizing king thrones generally comes with a lot of land, and big land grabs give tons of BB. Scotland isn't that big though, so you must have done some dastardly deeds beforehand...

It does sound like you have too much BB (and too small an army to deter them), making everyone attack you. I think they still need claims to declare war, or maybe they're getting events to declare war. Of course, vassals ask their lieges to join in, and any allies can too.

Just grabbing and then taking a King title in a peace doesn't give that much BB though, grabbing and then taking a province is actually more. If you also took a bunch of his provinces and ducal titles too, that's another thing...

I already had claims on Scotland at the start of the game though, and I was his rival and got the rebellion through an event. I took one King title and one County in the peace. Also, it was my first war and I claimed no titles throughout the game, this was only around 1072-4.

Then you shouldn't have too much BB. Then the fact that they're refusing peace (and so easily declaring war) is that they think your army is so small. The reasons that they're able to declare war are vassal/liege relationships (lieges can declare war on enemies of a vassal, or at least will be asked to when the vassal first goes to war, and vassals can get an event requesting them to declare war on the liege's enemy), claims, and alliances (which I know I often overlook).

Try offering your entire treasury in a peace, assuming you still have any money (and if you have over 100 gold, build something first ;)). You can even pause, offer your entire treasury (or even the same bit of land, if several enemies have claims to it) to several people, and then unpause and wait for their replies. If more than 1 enemy takes the gold, it'll put you into the negative, but as a smart human, "your entire treasury" when negotiating desperate peaces should be <100 gold (as opposed to 1-province counts offering thousands of gold in the mid-game), so not much of a debt. I even managed to give a county to two different enemies in my AAR game. It ended up with the one who accepted peace later.
