I want to develop an expanded map (first) ultimately with the goal of filling it in with some more factions and events. If anyone has played RTW and remembers the map from EB or Mundus Magnus, then I mean something like that.

My own idea is to have a map extending all the way to western china? but this may not be feasible if there is a limited number of province ids.
If a no-timelimit patch is released, it would be nice to be able to try and surpass the achievements of Alexander. This would be a very big project, but if anyone wants to work on something like this I think it would be very interesting.

EB actually has a planned release for this game, though the more mods the merrier.

yeah, i read about that, i just assume that they work pretty slowly and i don't really want to aim for an all-expansive mod like they would do, just a bit more flavor and a much larger map, perhaps making a map that the eb team could then build on

I'm thinking about extending the timeline into the past (if such a thing is possible) and creating a bunch of historical startpositions from 1 AVC (753 BC) onward.

I'm not sure if it's possible yet...this will be my first attempt at a major mod of a Paradox game and I'm mostly familiarizing myself with the text file structure and master lists of stuff that has to be interlinked---this isn't going to be something that will go 1.0 release over the weekend, y'know?

The only thing I'm sure of is the name - SLURM (SimuLord's Ultimate Rome Mod), a nod to Futurama.

I'm all for an expanded map/factions mod. I'd do it myself if I knew anything beyond the bare basics of EU modding...

I've already added two Germanic tribes to mine. I wouldn't say they are perfectly historical but they add a little more flavor to the game if you choose to play as a Barbarian tribe.

I would gladly offer my assistance. I guess I'm good enough with all this to be of some help. It's not that complicated anyway :D

I wouldn't mind seeing a mod a bit like the Independent Europe mod from EU2. Split all the majors up into smaller powers so the game is more unpredictable.

For example:
Rome gets split into Rome, Etruscans, and Samnites.
Egypt loses its south to Kush and east to Jueda and Phonecia.
Selucids get split up into Parthians, Babylonians, Sumerians, etc.

Sort of an ancient world 'death match' scenario, instead of the same five super-powers all the time.

How can you support Rijeka and Dinamo at the same time?

i'm really a Pula fan ironically...

As for previously stated, I agree, I think a lot of the dead space should be other factions, because there Were tribes living in those areas who were just as organized as the other tribal nations that paradox decided to include. (i would argue that Dacia would be even more so along with pictish tribes in britain)
Really the way Greece looks should be the way the rest of eastern and northern europe are, it would add a lot more flavor for the barbarian and roman players (and colonization wouldnt be as much of a problem for those with low civ)

Just a nit pick, but if the game were to start in 1 AVC, then for the sake of historical accuracy, the province of Judea should be split in half, into Judah and Samaria. Because at this point in history, the Kingdom of Israel was still in existence (The Assyrians did not conquer it until later in the 8th century B.C.).

Things in the east get really murky if we start in 1 AUC or 753 BC.
Consider that the Urartian Kingdom still exists. Presumably, there are scythians as well. not to mention a Median empire. Ethnicity is also really hard to determine back then as well...Of course I am referring to armenia, but since when am I not? :p

The trouble is if say the destruction of the Urartian kingdom can be replicated by barbarian hordes or a scythian faction.

It'd be a really cool event chain if it could be scripted so that the Urartians were destroyed, and as the territory was absorbed by the medes and later the persians, Urartian slowly becomes consumed by indo-european armenians...I drool at the prospect.

I would really like to see an extended version of the EU: Rome map. Maybe we should not choose an over-ambitious goal of reaching China, but perhaps extent the map towards India and stop (like Alexander did) at the Indus. That way we can mod in additional lands to the Parthians. Also Bactria could be added. Arabia should remain as it is now (no need to add a lot of sand). The problem is however that I have never modded a 3D map, so I will have to learn that. However I do posses event-writing skills (as you can see in my signature).

yeah i took a look at the files... its going to be pretty laborious, especially because of the 3D.
but
not having any historical events saves a lot of time when it comes to adding nations.. modding in victoria was hard because if you added a nation without events you would really notice the lack of flavor.

i would also consider using the eu3 map as a guidline of how to expand the rome map

only 396 ids in the definitions file.. kinda makes me wonder

im going to get started on a concept and new provinces today

Would anyone help me mainly with doing the positions editing?

Before you start, just test to expand the mapsize itself with more black area and see if the game crashes, I know it did in EU3. If it is the same here, that would mean that expanding the map would take a complete redrawing of the entire map.

I'd also take a look at colormap_hires and have a go at drawing additional graphics and make sure you can match it before putting to much work into it. I'm thinking custom brushes might be a way, using what is already there.

EDIT: When I say expanding the mapsize, I mean for areas east of the seleucis, the big black area in scandinavia and north of the blacksea wouldn't be as hard. Some Sarmatian and Scythian or even Ugric/Finnish nations could be fitted up there.
