I actually look forward to the expansion. The core game is about setting up the first colony on Mars and managing it to self-sufficiency.
The Expansion adds the second, third, fourth, fifth and so on, and explores how those colonies interact with each other. Especially as they are not fou8nded by the same country or organization.
In my opinion, it would make sense that the colonies at some point detach themselves from their sponsors, realizing that they have more in common with each other than with their respective sponsors on earth, and relying on each other rather than earth. But before that, the sponsors on earth will, of course, have demands to their colonies.
I think there is a misunderstanding about the season pass and the DLC.
They said Season pass will cover two expansions and two content packs. After that, they said content packs would be free, but season pass holders would still get something for their money.
The free DLC that added a bunch of mysteries was a content pack, was going to be paid, but that changed.
So, if I understand this correctly, we are at 2/4 not at 3/4. There will be another free content pack and another expansion with small bonus DLC that season pass holders will get.
We will see.
Things future Expansions could (In my opinion should) add:
Trains as a mass transit system to allow colonists to reach far away domes as a mid to late game alternative to passages which have a very short range.
Livestock farms. Cows, Pigs, Chicken and such to produce Food Vegans will refuse to eat and/or get sick if they do. Also: Pets.
Proper Tourism. Like having a way to attract tourists and profit from them. Having people spend their holidays on Mars.
Martian Culture that develops over time and is influenced by different things. Also: A way to influence Martian Society more. So the Colony could resemble what you believe in, rather than it being some vague utopian communism that doesn't allow for personal freedom nor would it work IRL.
Children to actually look like children instead of like people in their early 20s or late teens, gluttons and pregnant women to have a belly and such things.
Expanded renegades system and something else, maybe demonstrations or panicking colonists, that make the investments of security stations worthwhile, even in well-functioning colonies. (I have the same rule that makes renegades spawn randomly and steal more activated almost everywhere and I don't really notice a difference, other than that I have some renegades according to the statistics and a notification every now and then that some amount of resources I have plenty of have been stolen.)
