I have a couple of questions for all of you regarding exploration.

(1) What is the difference between an explorer, and an admiral in terms of how they command ships in battle? I know that only the explorers can go into terra incognita until naval tech level 16 or 17, but other than that, is there any real difference?

(2) Some of the leaders listed in the game are labelled privateers. What exactly do they do? What are the differences between them and other naval leaders?

(3) What factors go into determining what territories an explorer/conquistador can "discover"? For example, when I send Cabot to the New World, sometimes he sees a lot of colonizable provinces, and other times he sees nothing, in exactly the same place. I'm guessing that its the manuever rating, but there has to be some other factors that aren't in the documnentation.

(4) What determines a country's ordinary leader ratings? Do they change depending on the monarch or are they hard-coded to change at certain times or to remain constant?

Thanks for all the help, the subtle nuances of the game are great and I'm learning more every day, but the lack of documentation is a bit frustrating. Thank God for Huszic's FAQ or this list would be quite a bit longer. Again, thanks of rnay help you all could give.

Regards,
Jason

1) Explorers M counts double when counting attrition. AFAIK that's the only other difference in the CG.

2) Feature of the BG that was never implemented in the CG. Basicly leaders that could lead your Privateers fleets (hired pirates).

3) Your guess is as good as mine.

4) Leader ratings are constant. Determined from countries historicaly military success.
