Whenever I play old Paradox games on my Windows 7, it works fine until all of a sudden I got messages saying "Failed to create attached surface!" WTF Just happened?

Try to run it in WindowsXP compatibility mode and try to run it with desktop composition disabled
Did you try to play it in windowed mode somehow ?
If I remember right I get an error message while trying to run AoD in windowed mode, once I change desktop colors to 16 Bit it works (game engine limitation)
