I wanted to play a multiplayer game with my friend recently, and we had trouble connecting to each other's games.

It said something like "failed to find game" and I have no idea what that means.
I also have no idea what the newbie guide here is trying to teach me.

I know we both have the same version, but if I remember correctly, I might have edited some of the province datas, and I am pretty sure he has not.

Also we do not play Deus Vult, if that helps.

I'm not sure about anything else, but if someone could guide me to understanding what is wrong when we get "failed to find game", I would appreciate it.

Paradox games are notoriously crappy when it comes to establishing MP games. You're experiencing a rather common, rather inexplicable problem.

First off, your province data will have to be the same. Basically the only thing you can safely mod is sounds and music.

Secondly, you may have to try multiple ways of joining a game. If you're getting the error message over Valkryie.net, just forget about it. There's nothing you can do. If you're close by, try LAN, or Internet connection (which is just directly connecting to the IP address of the host).

Worst case scenario, you'll have to download something like Hamachi, which creates a network you and your friend can join so as to run LAN games.

Hope that helps.

Well - there are a few things you can try. Basics first: Have you both opened your router ports, as outlined in the sticky thread here? Second, have you informed your respective firewalls that CK is a good program? Third, the built-in Windows firewall will sometimes give trouble. Try tabbing to desktop while CK is attempting to connect; there could be a Windows popup asking if CK is a good guy and should be allowed to run. Fourth, try just swapping who is host and who is joining. Fifth, if you have anyone else available, see if you can join a game they host; if you show up a few minutes before start time of the ongoing Friday game, they would quite likely test-host for you, and since we know their hosting works, this can at least isolate the problem. Sixth and finally, try talking to your ISP's tech support. They can sometimes be helpful.
