I'm attaching a photo of the error.
These actions did not help.
Right click on victoria3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.
I attach a file from the program DXDIAG, as well as files system.log , error.log , exceptions.txt

Interesting. This is not an operating system exception code. Instead, it's a throw instruction from somewhere within the game engine. In other words, the game engine encountered a condition that warranted hitting the emergency break, so to speak.

As such, we are unable to give support on this.

You should create a bug report in the bug reporting sub forums instead. This is something the game programmers need to see, as only they can tell what's wrong here, and what specific condition you have tripped.

While I bow to m'learned colleague's expertise, I'm curious about this one. Has this game ever worked on this computer? Or never yet?

Any mods in use?

What happens if you run victoria3.exe directly from File Explorer?

Looking at your dxdiag I suggest you free up some space on your C: drive, and then please expand your Windows paging file maximum size to 32gb
AND exit every other app you can before starting the game. That may not relate to the issue your having but needs attention regardless IMO!

Yes, the game used to run on this computer.
I attach photos of the mods I use.
When you run victoria3.exe directly from explorer, the same thing happens.
Increasing the swap file did not help as well as freeing up space on the C drive.

I was wondering if you might have one of the problem Intel CPU models, but no. However you may as well update that ASUS bios you have.

Let's try a clean reinstall with no mods:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-Vic3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Victoria3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add Victoria3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test with a new campaign, NOT any existing one/

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Victoria3 or Documents Victoria3 locations, before installing again.

Is that any better? If not, best to follow @jpd 's advice above.

The game works fine on D: normally - that's where I have it - so the issue was something else! Not really sure what, I have to admit ...
