Yes, that is cheating

But such questions really shouldn't be in this part of the forum

Questions about MP games should be in the MP subforum

The game assambles the Checksum at every start. Doomsday (vanilla) with patch 1.2 applied should always have 'REBB' as checksum (seen in the upper right corner). So if you, for example, boosted your Units stats before starting up, the game recognizes the changes and builds a new checksum. If you enter a multiplayer game and the two checksums aren't according to each other you can't establish a MP game. That prevents players from cheating and also makes sure all have compatible versions of the game.

Is it possible, theoredically, to change just enough to have the same checksum? Just for curiousitys sake
Sure... the odds are 1 - in - 456,976 that any change you make will leave the check-sum unchanged.

Care to try it?

Curiousity killed the cat. Cheats get caught regardless as experienced players can tell when something fishy is going on and then they start looking at the save files. And once you're known to be a cheat, you'd find it difficult to get your reputation back. Be glad that the checksum protects you from this sad fate.

Hm, that's interesting. I have changed the stats of most brigades in my SP-game, and when me and a friend play MP (on LAN), I copy the original brigade files back into the "units/brigades" directory. This has never caused any trouble. Does the game actually revert back to its original checksum when I do this?

Furthermore, I once forgot to do this before we played. This worked perfectly, but we only played for about 15 mins before we noticed the weird brigade stats and corrected the error. But it still worked! The odds

seem to indicate that this was not pure luck.

Any explanations?
