Folks, I've been enjoying having
@stnylan back on the forum for the past little bit, as I know we all have. He was one of the first people to comment on my first AAR, and he's been a positive presence for a lot of writers before and since. He hasn't been nominated since 2020, so I nominate
@stnylan for fan of the week.
Great to have another of the veterans of AARland back, so congratulations
@stnylan ! Sorry I missed your recent visit to the
bAAR. I hope to run into you more in these electronic columns as you continue your resurgence here.
Good choice
@Cora Giantkiller .
Ahh, yes. My friend
@stnylan has been an amazing commentator on these Fora for two decades, and was one of my most emphatic encouragers and supporters back when I was a beginning AAR-writer! And I think just about any writer through those decades could probably say the same.
It is WONDERFUL to see you back! We've all truly -- especially myself -- missed your presence these past few years. I hope you are able to stay! But very good to have your contributions in AARLand again!
Congratulations
@stnylan!
Rensslaer
Congratulations @stynlan ! Welcome back.
Same here - nicely done
@Cora Giantkiller
Welcome back
@stnylan - lovely to have you gracing the boards again, in what I hope will be a sustainable way for you
Many congratulations to my good friend
@stnylan , it was such a pleasant surprise to see you back!
Congrats
@stnylan, it's always nice when someone replies .
I am looking forward to
@stnylan reading list. There has to be some good stuff there
Congrats,
@stnylan. Nice to see you poking your head around these parts once again.
Congratulations, as ever,
@stnylan!
Always wonderful to see
@stnylan back and commenting!
Congrats
@stnylan and welcome back once again! Also congratulations on all the winners I've missed since I last posted here.
Again thank you all. I've been very gently trying to ease myself back into (as
@Bullfilter describes it) a sustainable way of being here. Feast or famine, drought or flood, that's historically been my issue here. Still, it has been fun finding a few AARs to follow here and there, and catching up on one from before (and I am about to try and catch-up on another, we shall see).
So with the understanding I haven't actually be reading very much, here is what I have been reading and enjoying.
Fabulae Romae - Tales of Rome by
@Kashked - an Imperator AAR, which technically begins in the mid-5th century, and then skips back and is busy telling us how we got to that point.
Taurica Part III: Age of Thought and Discovery (1300-1820) by
@kakom a Grand Campaign. I don't know parts I & II, but I didn't need to. The writAAR did a commendable set of summaries of what had gone before. Each chapter tells of a reign of the Zoticid dynasty, and their continual problems with heirs. I will say no more
The Last of Dumnonia - A Cornish AAR by
@Werson I will admit I noticed this one simply because of Cornwall, and it fortuitously started almost on St Piran's day. I may be not be Cornish born, but I grew up on the edge of Bodmin Moor and the county has a hold on my heart. In other words I am a sucker for a good Cornish AAR, and though it is very early days I like what Werson has done with his scene setting thus far.
Hearts of Iron 4 - AI War by
@Eurasia - Eurasia is one of my favourite AAR writers. I do hope I might eventually catch up with his
Victoria II Japan AAR and especially his CK2 AAR
Road of Queens, both of which still appear to be active. In the meantime though I spotted this one, where he is basically recording what the AI does. Sometimes it is just fun to watch what the AI gets up to.

- Incidentally he has also just started a non-paradox AAR in OT called
Grand Tactician - The Civil War - Whiskey And Lemons DLC (Union) as well.
Speaking of OT AARs may I also recommend
Shadows of the Long War (Terra Invicta AAR) by
@Chilango2 - this AAR has only just recently started. Terra Invicta is absolutely a grand strategy game rich for storytelling potential, and I cannot tell you how excited I was when I saw the announcement of this project.
Poles Apart – an HOI4 Ahistory by
@Bullfilter is just so much fun, a very much Alt-History take on things, with weird AI shenanigans, desperate defences, and all good Paradox fun.
Dreams of a Better Future - Tales of the Roccan Resistance by
@Nikolai - where being peacefully inclined cannot be allowed to get in the way of more important endeavours.
Atwix Legacy with Denmark: A Multicultural European Union by
@mackwolfe - a classic deep gameplay AAR, but clearly and well described so even someone like me, who hasn't played a game of EU4 in years can follow along. Actually it is making a EU4 itch flare up. We shall see.
There you have it.
