13th warrior is full of inaccuracies, superstition and are only rescued by Antonio Banderas as much as a movie can be rescued by him..

You should read Bernard Cromwells series The Saxon Chronicles. Starting with "The last kingdom". A really good read, allthough not medieval but more viking age.

The 13th Warrior is my guilty pleasure. It's not historically accurate at all, but I still love it. If only McTiernan and Crichton hadn't been fighting on set, we would've seen a satisfying end to some of the subplots, like the king's evil son, and Antonio Banderas' lady who vanishes near the end of the movie.

And Bernard Cornwell's Warlord Chronicles about King Arthur are superior to the Saxon books, imo.
