This has happened to me multiple times in 1096, june, november. I have an insanely high Intrigue rating of my monarch of Hungary, with 18 in Intrigue, and would love to complete this game. I wonder why Crysis fares so well, whereas a simple database game patch like Deus Vult fails. I also wonder about the absence of professionalism from Paradox in responding and acting on our complaints. I would love to play Hungary out, since my king can run 18 provinces at once due to 18 in Intrigue, and will not bend on this one!

Get this hotfix ASAP (By now, I know the problem is generic).

Turns out that there is a much more comprehensive thread on this in the bug report forum. I think we should all stick to that thread to keep all the information in the same place.

It may or may not be comprehensive, but nonetheless, not acted upon or responded too at all. I guess they got their money and ran away.

More testing.

This occurs with a very high Intrigue level (18 for King, which is historically high), and I get frequent offers of minor nobles wanting to become my vassals. The crash "unhandled exception" occurs in these situations.

I really want to know what happens with my Intricate Webweaver King.

Continues to happen every time I press "Start Game"

ok I am finally able to recreate this error. someone mentioned here or in another post about it being a memory allocation problem because of all the frequent pausing going on during a game.

To test this theory, I played 4 games. The first 3 games were played 20-40 years. I tested out The Duchy of Barcelona, The Kingdom of Jerusalem, and The Duchy of Silesia. While playing, I never exceeded the speed "Above Normal", and instead of pausing, I used + and - to gradually lower the speed to "Very Slow" before finally pressing "Pause". During these games, there was never any lag, and everything went smoothly.

On my fourth game, I played as the Duchy of Provence. After a brief war with Germany after defecting to France after the Imperial crown being passed on to a child, I kept the Speed at "Above Normal", but started using "Pause" without gradually lowing the speed down to "Very Slow" first.

The result was a big fat Fatal Error. This bug is definitely a Memory Allocation issue.

So, to recap, If you never exceed the speed "Above Normal" and gradually lower the speed down to "Slow" or "Very Slow" before pausing, You will not get a fatal error (probably).

Here are my specs in case they are needed for testing in a similar pc, or if anyone is simply wondering:

via ms-7104
intel P4 2.6
1gb ram (2x512) pc3200
pny 7600gs AGP
430w psu

Edit: My next test will be to try to keep everything stable, using the gradual speed-decrease pattern before hitting pause, while using the speeds "Fast" and "Very Fast" instead of "Above Normal".

I just started a game as the Duchy of Apulia, and later formed the Kingdom of Sicily, and played it until October 12, 1070. This time I used the speeds "Fast" and "Very Fast" both without a problem other than a bit of lag when the events went heavy, though only because I only have 1GB; those with more probably won't have the same issue as I do. There was no Fatal Errors during this time, and I plan on playing it out more so I will report back if anything happens. If I don't reply you can be assured that I received no Fatal Errors.

Things of note:

-During War, I never raised speed higher than "Normal" or "Above Normal".
-I have also tried pressing "Pause" while in "Above Normal" and "Fast" speeds, and lowering the speed to "Very Slow" while the game is paused. This seems to work but needs further testing to be certain.

I am a geek so if anyone wants me to test something just let me know because I have the time to do so.

Count yourselves lucky, I get this when ever I try to start a game. So unfortunately while repeatable I can't fwd a save game as I can't save(or start for that matter).

Sucks, gonna try a few things, but it was off a fresh CK->1.05->DV install and all three times I tried before I came here were with duchies. For what its worth.

Edit:Happens with all scenarios and all demense levels. Gonna try a fresh install.

Edit:No luck, tried a fresh install CK->1.05->DV and I get the same problem.

I wish I would have read these messages before I bought this game. I just paid for this and I'm having the exact same issue after installing the latest DV patch (which I more or less guessed at). I've liked these games since EU1 days, and I havn't seen such a terrible lack of support. No thread for DV alone, not even a readme file for the patch. Are we supposed to download the latest beta update for CK first before installing DV? Where's the thread with the installation instructions?

Well, off to retry...

EDIT: no luck following the DV 2-beta instructions posted here. *shrug*

I can't be bothered to uninstall and reinstall this more than once as I already have. Hopefully there will be an official response that includes a handy set of instructions on this particular technical issue/bug: the game loads but when you "start" your game screen goes black, no sound, with a fatal error window popping up (as reported countless times above). Hit 'esc' takes me back to the desktop but the game is no longer running.

I'm getting this fatal error very often. i can't play a whole year without the error. at some point i even saved every other month but that was even more annoying than the error itself.
the weird thing is that i managed to play deus vult till 1453 before and hardly got any errors. at least they were so rare that i didn't really care about them.

the only thing that changed since that game was that i manually edited the settings.txt file to play in 1280x1024 resolution. i'll try to lower it and see if it helps.

EDIT: well, it didn't.
