I just filled out the closed beta form earlier today and got curious what everybody entered as their favourite feature from a PDS game.

I said AE from EU4, as it fulfils its purpose of limiting player expansion, the basics of how it works are clear (any listed nation in the peace screen tooltip can join a coalition against you), but a skilful player can go into more depth to make the most of it (e.g. truce cycling and spreading expansion out).

P.S. I'm posting here as it's inspired from the CK3 beta, but might be too broad a question for here.

Quoting myself from the beta application:

"The ability to create our own stories, ever different, based on the game controlled randomness and influenced by our own decisions"

Nothing. I always hate questions like that, because I don't have any one favorite thing. There are features from many games I like, but they one isn't better than another

Characters for me. Always and forever. Basically they decide how I get immersed into a game. Could be strategy, action, RPG, etc. I am interested in characters, their stories, and their personality.

Plus that’s what makes court intrigue and emergent CK storytelling so fun.

Inventory/Artifact system & animated duels. If they do a fully 3D artifact system so you can physically see your inventory items, I'll be extremely happy, and I think this is doable with a DLC. The other thing that I think isn't doable but I still dream of is even short animated sequences of dueling characters. I think that may be too difficult to do, especially if they add a variety of weapons, armors, etc. as items with all the possible variations, different animations and so on. It would probably take too much time and effort.

Anything that lets me keep a "record" of my characters, their lives and achievements/exploits they made.

Character history sheets in EU-Rome, the chronicle in CK2...something of that sort.

None of those were perfect (chronicles was almost abandoned as soon as it was released), but a completely overhauled version of these with more features would be simply amazing.

Also: LEDGER!

The kill list was a great step back in the right direction.

It indeed was. I hope CK3 comes with a themed chronicle feature that already features a kill list + a lot of things more.

Without being barebones and full of useless fluff like three headed cows and non-stop comet rains this time, hopefully.

I kind of liked the fluff for uneventful years, but it was too frequent and repetitive in practice.

You can only hear about ten feet tall women getting crucified so many times...

Indeed. I didn't mind it first few times, but when literally 2/3 of my chronicle is filled with repeated reports of three-headed babies and mutant cows, it becomes a completely useless feature.

Even Victoria 2's repeated "Spain fears Great Britain" news at least indicated relations and power levels between two countries.

I said the Civilisation creator from Stellaris, but I think the ruler creator from CKII would be a close second. I like having ability to create new actors for my games. It also helps RPing.

I'd like to add ruler/nation designer to the list. Absolutely love that in any game. :p

I put the ability to raid as a Viking in CK2. Nothing beats going berserk amidst a great siege of Paris and subsequently murdering dozens of characters, stealing their gold and items, and hauling off the rest to my dungeons.
