Why the Fed Suns hate?

Maybe it's just because I like Davion, but there seems to be a consistent undercurrent of dislike.
I mean I've played some TT, most of the computer games and read some of the books but I can't see anything to explain the animosity I see? Have I missed something? Or is it just my perception? :)

It is just the usual reaction of inferior realms in the face of awesome. :D

I don't think it's 'hate' perse (and personally, I'm neutral towards the Suns, I like them equally compared to the other Great Houses)

More of a perceived bias towards the house by the authors/creators, especially during one specific time-frame, the Clan Invasion. Though you could argue the 4th Succession War as well. Some lean towards the heavy amount of storylines they were allowed compared to other Houses for a long time and others will say it's the characters that presented as infallible (VSD in particular). Some people just like to barrack for the underdog against the big bad fox and want to see them fall.

This is all personal opinion, of course, based on lots of debates I've had over the years about this topic. I personally love that we're so invested in the characters/houses of the BTech universe that they're WORTH debating about.

Eh, i don't mind Davion.

Honestly, i think the problem with them is... Uh... 'oversaturation', maybe?

It's not my favorite faction but I am far away from hating it. For me the explanation is that it got featured as the "good guys" throughout the fiction while everybody else is, well, the opposite. When looking at the states and factions it is clear that there's no good or bad. So, the FS getting so much coverage, wasn't to my taste. I think every IS state should have at least gotten their "Wolfs at the border" and "Heir to the Dragon" novel. Just to shed some more light on them.

It's a combination of factors, from disliking their portrayal as "boy scouts" (a not entirely unjustified [albeit skewed] assessment), to preferring antiheros over normal heros, to thinking of them as mary sues (okay maybe only one of them in particular though I personally don't think it's fully justified), to even faction loyalty (Dracs and Cappies dislike them in universe after all), even to viewing them as scumbag warmongers. (see, a range).

Some of these can be used as the exact same reasons someone does like the Fed Suns.

I don't "hate" a rival BattleTech Faction, any more than my being a Dallas Cowboys fan has me "hate" a rival NFL team.

It's a rivalry.

It's fun because it adds context and nuance to the Gaming franchise I have enjoyed for more than 30-years.

It is not hate.

For me Factional Rivalries in BattleTech and with fellow BattleTech gamers is simply part of the fun... part of the game.

Wolf's on the Border, by far my favorite (and first) BTech novel. So much love .

Confirmation Bias is a proper Scientific Method. :D

That's the phrase I was looking for :)

FS/Davion are my favorite (major) faction, but I completely agree with the overexposure/canonisation problem :(

Steiner Scout Lance Memes.

And Urbie memes, surely?
Once someone finds a way to combine those with cat videos, we can turn off the internet - it will have served it's purpose :D

Something we've got in common. Knowing nothing about BT, I chose it just by the cover (Archer!) and "wolfed" it down. That was '90/'91 if I am not mistaken. It was the one "thing" that got me into the BT universe and I am hooked until today. Additionally, it sparked my interest in reading books. Crazy.

This, I don't actually hate the Davions, I am fed up with the oversaturation as Juodas said.
But when you have your faction that you invest time and money constructing an army for, then you occasionally like to get into the correct mindset for a bit of friendly rivalry, and ribbing, online.

Now, begone you imperialistic Davion swine, you won't be invading the Concordat today :p

I think it is like what others stated. Davion always seems to be written as the "Good Guys" in a lot of the books. Those who are fans of other houses see this as unfair, and rightfully so. Why? Because no one is good or innocent in BattleTech. Every House has done terrible things to further their own cause.

It's a universe built on shades of gray.

So, if a house was just a sneaky and dirty as the others, but was elevated as having some sort of superior morale compass for the IS, sure it will irk some fans.

Me? I like them all pretty much.

I'll say this though, Those Free Rasalhague Republic guys got something there! I am sure that they will be successful, will grow, and last forever. Nothing bad is going to happen to that great empire ;).
