Hi, playing first time with DAIM as the Soviets, I have noticed how after the purges every Tom, Dick & Harry gets a promotion to FM or at least to General; currently I must have more than 10 FMs and about 20 Generals (using autopromote btw). Now I don't remember this being the case in Vanilla DD 1.3a, so I guess it must be DAIM; am I right? Is this happening because the number of my forces increases dramatically? Does the same happen to AI nations?

Yes, we increased the leader ratios that determine the number of higher-ranking leaders you get via auto-promotion:
Code:
leader_ratio = {
	land_field_marshal	= 0.056 # = 1/18
	land_general		= 0.074 # = 1/13.5
	land_lt_general		= 0.333 # = 1/3

	sea_grand_admiral	= 0.033 # = 1/30
	sea_admiral		= 0.056 # = 1/18
	sea_vice_admiral	= 0.083 # = 1/12

	air_marshal		= 0.063 # = 1/16
	air_general		= 0.125 # = 1/8
	air_lt_General		= 0.250 # = 1/4
}
You'll get 1 field marshal for every 18 land units and so on. It may be a little overdone, but it didn't cause problems yet. Unfortunately the AI likes to use little stacks instead of larger, more powerful ones. If I'm not mistaken this was much better in an earlier version of HoI 2/DD.

Thanks for the answer! :)

Any special reason for this? To be more exact, do you think I would harm the game and/or the AI in any way if I lower the ratios somewhat?

On the other hand, I can of course just autopromote until I have the desired number of high ranking commanders, and then turn the function off so if it is judged better for the AI I can just leave the settings as they are.

Change it to whatever you want, it shouldn't have a big impact on the game. I changed it in an earlier version in order to make the AI use bigger stacks - which worked to a certain extent at the time. As said above that's not the case anymore, the AI uses stacks with 1-3 units for the most part.

Field Marshall Montgomery was promoted from general to field marshal as a "patch on the wound" after being put under Eisenhower's command. Ol'Monty didn't want to be under american command and argued with Ol'Ike all the time they met and acted like children. (imho) I dont know if that helped Monty very much irl, but he wanted to be the boss of the invasion of Germany, but Eisenhower had more important political ties and had also very competent subcommanders and they arranged it so Montgomery got promoted so he wouldnt look like a total looser. He had put much prestige into being commander of German invasion, but also his northern advance into NL was disastrous, and had to wait for months before they could attack Germany again. So if you ask me it was a fine deal. Give the man a title and have him shut up hahaha.
