Atlas has the same operating costs as a Locust? I know they're abstracting things but thought there may be some variation in the running costs.

(Also more references to the Atlas II I see  )

storage, and dusting... flat-rate for all sizes.

For those that remember the old Warhammer games "Shadow of the Horned Rat" and "The crappy sequel that was always in bundle deals", each unit had a retainer cost and a deployment cost. We may be seeing the same here perhaps? A flat rate maintenance cost but different mechs cost different amounts when actually deployed?

So the lowered expense levels are twice as punitive as the raised expense levels are beneficial.

Interesting that the small and medium 'Mechs have the same maintenance cost. Wonder if heavies and assaults, at least, will scale up?

I’m confused regarding the bank loan line item. I thought loans were a cut feature? Would love some clarification from someone who knows more.

I seem to recall hearing that we start the game out in debt; if so, that's probably a story-based legacy loan. If true, that would also suggest that we get an Atlas early...?

But it could be that we should be careful about reading too much into all this and Mitch just put in some oddities to mess with our theory crafting. :D

The second screenshot shows an Atlas and and Atlas-II, both also at 6,000 c-bills. Every mech having the same upkeep cost would be oversimplifying things to a dissapointing degree.

It's possible this video was cut from an earlier build before they scrapped the loans.

Greetings Mechwarriors

This thread and all its cousins have been moved to the Battletech Universe thread due to forum organization and usability needs as a compromise after consulting with the thread author. A direct link still exists in the main subforum for each thread, but IIRC it will not bump with each post like the actual threads will. These redirects will stay up for at least a week to help funnel traffic here.

Please check for updates in the Battletech universe subforum. And please bear with us as we juggle usability issues to try and account for the needs of all mechwarriors as best we can.

Thank you.

Tyler mentioned in one of the other threads to go easy on the details, some of this was done while in debugging mode.

Yeah, it makes sense for them to be more concerned with quickly communicating a general look-and-feel than with making sure all the stats are accurate and the version is up-to-date with what the forums have been told.

If this is only the maintenance (storing it in a mech bay, keeping it lubricated etc) as opposed to rearming and operational costs it makes sense (in my experience the big difference between doing these tasks on large vehicles compared to small ones is time).
On the other hand, it could be from an early test build where the values are placeholders.

Guess you start indebted, which makes a lot of sense. I mean, we are a bunch of nobodies, who nevertheless own four Mechs and a Leopard. Somebody must have funded all these toys. :)

I think you are probably right. The real difference in cost of ownership between an AS7 and a ENF would be the repair bills, not the storage. I can park my Fiat 500 for the same price as my Tesla Model 3. But if I wreck the Fiat, it'll be cheaper to fix than if I wreck the Tesla

Just throwing this out there, maybe choices we make in our commander's character background impact starting cash (or debt), or even impact costs or morale effects?

Compare the first two screens to the third screen. The bank loan is the biggest single expense and disappears between them, while it's replaced by Argo upkeep (though that's only half as expensive). The first screen also mentions transit to Bellerophon, which is another progress 1 system. So it looks like we ditch our loan and get the Argo pretty early.

In every mercenaries handbook the operational maintenance fee was based of every 5 tons cost x c-bills.

And in the Feb Q/A they stated that the Argos has a hold of "holding" where you mothball your un-used mechs in a non-operational state no weapons and such just the base chassis at no cost.

this is to keep your mech's operational and ready to go in a moments notice... a 6-7 meter tall locust versus a 13-14 meter tall Atlas, costs a lot more. someone mentioned a fiat and Ferrari... not even close. more like the fiat and a Mack truck.

One other thing to keep in mind though: you may be forced to simply move on, because all of your mechs are in the repair bay or you've burned through all of your uninjured pilots, from your current crew and hires. Since apparently we can't field injured pilots, per InspectorHound's post in the Contracts thread.
