also since the release on steam and the new dlc there has been renewed activity in the modding community for mw5.
most of the mods are released on nexus with some being co-released on steam workshop.
there are more then a few QoL mods and that things a bit better or prettier and fix or tweak things that still aint quite right.

one must have is 'more company logos' mw5 only gives you a paltry few to choose from
also for me at least is the no friendly fire mod

I finally went back and finished the campaign. The final mission is fun. They have improved the game enough that I have been playing a few times per week, enjoying random missions.

The hero missions from the DLC are actually really well done. Much more interesting maps and encounters. I haven't modded the game yet. Previously I felt like I had to for an enjoyable experience, but PGI has really improved it.

Yeah, I'm digging it a bit more now with the Heroes of the Inner Sphere expansion. I like the Career mode option (similar to how I like Career Mode in HBS Battletech). The side campaigns are nice too.

Its a big enough improvement that I recommend the DLC when it comes to enjoying MW5: Mercs.

I do think the game still has a ways to go to really feel finished and polished, but it does feel like it is getting there. At least I enjoy it a lot better now.

It's kind of disheartening to see so little information about MW5 online. There doesn't seem to be a comprehensive wiki with all the mech variants. Reddit is a little helpful. I guess the launch was kind of rough and people lost interest so quickly that no one bothered to make a good guide. That's really unortunate as I've played worse games with huge fan built wikis.

No, i'm very familiar with Sarna, just didnt know they had a sub wiki for mw5. Thanks!

So, been playing it, discovering its shenanigans; it's both a basic game and more developed than the previous MW titles. The story is uninspired, as in it seems to pick little things from every MW title, though lore-friendly.
There are several things which are plain weird, a few wrong (like, 12 available mechs on a Leopard?), and the 400-ton missions one better be good in headshotting if playing single (too bad I can't equip JJ's on my Annie-A with double Gauss). But I'm glad to be playing a new singleplayer MW. Damn glad.

Oh, and kudos for the side-missions (Flashpoints?), they only go from 2 to 4 missions each, but they're actually well-written (compared with the main story) and just so natural lore-wise.

::thumbs-up emoji::

P.S.: Another obligatory mod: the MAD-5A fixit that turns the medium-sized ballistic hardpoint to a large one!

I finished the DLC "flashpoints" and i agree they´re better written than main story, which is bland, but still enjoyable in my opinion.
The side missions (jobs) leading to upgrades are a nice touch to generate replayability too.
And while i think the spawn of opfor is still a little unfair, the game is far better than in release. Specially regarding optimization.
To my sadness, didn´t manage to buy or salvage a single marauder II until now... And i already shot down 2 during missions.

I'm at 3035 right now and I think I have completed all the side missions (or at least ones that aren't time released after 3035 if there are ones). I'm also sporting some hefty firepower.

I may need to start over in 3035 in Rasalhague territory to experience more mechs when they are most useful.

So, finished the campaign. It was cool, the story/plot is a bit bland but it's also safe, and that's ok with me. Though, have to admit, the last part of the campaign really disappointed me, as in the direction it took (like, literally) had me hoping for a very special twist. And there was, just not the kind that seemed so obvious to me. Drats...
Still, it was nice. Will probably play it again in the future and see if I can finish it earlier (like, I ended this one post-3053 :p )
And I confess, I'm quite eager to see if PGI has anything else in the works for this game. There's just so much one can add/fill in before the Clans.

Ah well, started a Career run. It's actually more challenging (PGI's right in having those pop-ups warning Career is for players that know the game); I picked the FWL, and the starting mechs... Well, the FLE-15 is the most powerfull, weapon-wise. o_O
(just kidding, the Javelin with 4xML takes the spot, actually)
Going to be spending a lot of time doing the lowest missions and saving c-bills until going core-ward and try to buy at least two beefier meds, like a Vindicator and/or Blackjack.
Going to see if this time I can "save" the leader of that pirate gang on one of the side-missions (High Reward Quest); taking out both legs of the mech registered as a kill, so this time I'll try taking out all his weapons to force him to eject.

For those on PC: the official Piranha infantry mod was released yesterday. I haven’t run into any since installing it, but I’m already pretty far into this campaign.

I started my Career Run with the Davions because I wanted the Enforcer. I think I chose one of the harder lances only because everything else in my lance is so light and fragile. I especially noticed Assasination Missions were extra difficult and dangerous when starting.

I think next time I'll pick a faction with a more balanced lance. I do want to try Rasalhague just for the later time frame. I saw a dual PPC Panther Hero Mech that just seemed bonkers to try. Unfortunately in my current playthrough it wouldn't be as useful.

So I’ve run into some infantry…with my assault mech. Hah.

seriously though, against a Highlander, they are more a distraction than a threat. I imagine they may be more threatening to light mechs if not tended to.

There is a little (55-ton) detail regarding the Davions...

There's a special bonus for those who pick House Davion: in Kurita space close both to the Davion and Outworlds Alliance borders, there's a system called Valentina; if the player visits it, there's a TRANSMISSION available there with fluff text and a custom-painted WVR-7H (its weapons are tier 2). No mission or transaction needed, it's a free mech for the player.

Anybody can take the mech but, due to the location, it's obviously meant for House Davion.

EDIT: BTW, according to the Patch Notes, the Infantry Mod is available only at EGS and Steam. I haven't really had a chance to check it out (GOG'er here). Also, for those who have experienced it, can they show up on any map or are they more restricted to urban biomes?

they can show up at any location the enemy has presence, from outposts, to urban centers or bases.
