I'm playing DDR, normal settings except high random events and hot relations. Most regions are USSR aligned, like all Africa and S. America. Apart from the crawling passage of time, there's just not much for me to do. I have a good handle on the economy and it seems, a technologically advanced army (I see FRG still using Tiger IIs). I don't know what to do and feel powerless other than 'Support' this, 'Acnowledge' that, and even there's there's absolutely no visible payoff. So I waited for 1962 and the Cuban Missile Crisis, as I thought something has got to happen, maybe a raise in Defcon level or breakout of proxy wars. But no, I just get a message that a hotline has been established following the events of the CMC. I get this is the Cold War but the game fails to do either of 2 things:

- Have a decent amount of decisions to make, with clear consequences so you can steer the game the way you want (as in Hearts of Iron)
- Be historically accurate, or otherwise provide feedback as to why some events came to pass or not (i.e. China being at war against France indefinitely). Maybe it could be randomised somewhat so that each playthrough is different (e.g. Castro's invasion fails, Batista remains in charge, no CMC).

In short, more scripted events or hefty decisions would make the Cold War scenario a lot more interesting. This shouldn't be like a Europa Universalis 3 style game with few scripted events, because of the nature of international relations here. In that game, wars break out at the fall of a hat, here many regions will be adjusting sliders and upgrading forces for decades before any action, so some variety would be in order.

So, any suggestions as to what to do? Can I expect anything interesting to happen with my current settings?

Sounds like the game isn't for you. I love playing Russia and trying to plunge country's into war. FYI this isn't a HOI game so don't expect that kinda game play.

SR still relies in the player being a catalyst for much of the action in the world. I, as Spain, have been the back bone of France's war with China. The French just put down garrisons and the Americans have a few Green Berets and M103s.
