War with vassal - can't make peace.

I declared war on a count, and while the war was ongoing that count died and was inherited by a duke that was one of my vassals.

As a result, both counties the original count owned were now part of my empire, and I had no reason to continue the war.

So I clicked on the duke I was at war with...and all I see are the "mobilize host, send assassin, etc." options normal for a vassal.

I did see my vassal flagged as at war with me, but on the relationship screens his territories were all in green, not red.

Eventually I got a peace offer from my duke and took it, but something didn't seem quite right about the process.

I reproduced this situation exactly. (savegame available) Made a Count declare war on me. Count goes independant. A Duke who is my vassal is his heir. I kill off the Count, Duke inherits. Duke is still my vassal.

Duke gets the land as well as the At War state. He and I are at war, but I am given the option of decalring war on him, but no option to Sue for Peace.

If I load the game as the Duke, I have the option to Sue for Peace. So I expect the AI to offer peace proposals even though I cannot.

As a fix for this you could either get rid of the At War state when a province is inherited by someone who already has a title. Or, you could make available a Sue For Peace option even though the individual is your vassal. As a last option you could make the vassal go independant when they inherit.

It seems to me that if a ruler inherited lands that were at war, he would not neccessarily be at war just because the former ruler was. I don't know how historically accurate this is though...

FIXED IN 1.03 (the option to sue for peace will be there if it ever happens)
