Ok I think I figured out how to fix the low framerate and slow performance in the game. I got the game on steam and I was having the same problems as a lot of people with the game being extremely slow and battles being a slideshow. I used to click play from the Steam Window and wait for a long time for the game to load and everything was slow. But just a few minutes ago I went to the game folder where it downloaded (C/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/Kingarthur2) and I re-ran the auto setup for the game. The game still loaded really slow but I exited and ran the CoreTech2_x64_10 and lo and behold the game ran fast. Now the game loads withing a minute instead of about 5 minutes, to load a saved games take about a minute or less. The battles run smooth now, I can see the units walk and move well when before they would just skip from one spot to another.
I also exited out and loaded the game from the main launcher and it was slow again and went back and launched it from CoreTech2_x64_10 and it worked again. Also I noticed that when I launched it using CoreTech2_x64_10 there was a little window that popped up and said that Windows 7 had changed color or something and the program was not compatible with some color thing in Windows 7 (sorry that I don't remember exactly what it said, the window was up only for a few seconds).
I hope this helps people. People who are having issues please try this.. Running the auto setup might not be necessary. I will also retweek some of the setting it detected and see what happens. It set my settings to low, but all the bars but the grass one set to the very left but I think my graphics card can do better. I will retry different settings and repost later, maybe tomorrow.
I'm going to go play the game now as I haven't been able to play it before.

AutoSetup doesn't work for me, it crashes instantly. I think that all it does though, is adjust the Video settings, which can be done manually, and I do, to low settings for a reasonable FPS. Character, Environment and Grass detail are some of the bigger offenders which I don't really miss when they're turned down.

And yes, it does revert my Windows 7 colour scheme to basic, doesn't really matter though.

So are you basically saying "lower your graphics settings for faster performance"? :p Eureka!

Not at all, what I'm saying is that run that file CoreTech2_x64_10 in the game files to launch the game instead of running other exe files or running the game through steam's Play button. My guess is the CoreTech file name could be different for some people as I'm running the game in DirectX 10 and Windows 64 bit. Has anyone tried to do this?

Yes. Over in the Steam forums for the game (where I think most Steam users are frequenting), this is being done. Most people find that it drastically reduces load times, while having very little or no effect on framerate. This was a godsend for me, after--like you--having to wait 5 minutes to load anything (and there's a lot of loading in this game!). Now, all of my loading is snappy and quick. My framerates are around 17-19 FPS in campaign and battle.

Win 7 x64
AMD 720BE @ 3200; 3-core
4 GB Ram
Radeon 5770; 1 GB ram

Load times are somewhat improved sometimes, nothing dramatic but it wasn't slow to begin with on my end. I'm finding much better FPS with only shadows turned way down and everything else maxed but nothing ticked, with this method.

I'm not sure what my fps is but it's not choppy, from appearances it seems to be 20ish to 30s and I'm running the radeon 5770. This is much better than the horrid teens it felt like.

Edit: Checked the FPS with Fraps. Caps out at around 30, if I zoom in dips down to 15. Floats around 25 though. Still needs a lot of fixing. With settings all the way down there is 0 change.

This game installs over 30,000 files loosely, I cannot stress this enough..... DEFRAG, in fact I am shocked that this hint is not put into the game installer, perhaps at the end of installation advise the user to defrag there hard drive.

NOTE, I highly recommend that this game (all games really) to be installed on different partition (different hard drive would be even better) to windows.
That way you can then defrag say for example drive D: with "Defrag by File Name". This would put all the files grouped together and sorted alphabetised. Loading speeds and file accesses by the game (by windows even) will improve significantly.

Normal Defrag will still help a lot, however "Defrag By File Name" on games is a better choice of defrag method, but this method does have a negative effect on the partition windows is installed too, so don't use this method if your Games are installed on the same partition as windows (use Auto defrag instead).

Well, my load times werent that high to begin with but i tried that tip anyway and it didnt do much :|
still unplayable
As for defrag, well, no improvement there at all ... This game hates windows 7 x64 (99% of ppl who reported perfomance issues have win7 x64, as far as i saw anyway)

Ill wait some more for another patch that hopefully will fix this problem but if it wont happen then ill be forced to (sadly) return the game and get a refund. Pity, i was looking forward to play this ...

I did this and I have considerably higher performance. The units no longer stutter when I move them and is fluid. Not sure how to check the fps but seems playable doing this way. I have win 7 x64 and running crossfirex HD 6970's

this worked for me.

I did what the first commenter did: I went to the game folder where it downloaded (C/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/Kingarthur2) and I re-ran the auto setup for the game.
The Framerate in the battles is actually a hundred timers better and runs nice and smoothly.
Enjoyment of the game has been significantly increased.
Thanks

Running AutoSetup does not work for me. This pops up: "The procedure entry point RegDelete TreeA could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAP132.dll." And CoreTech2_x64_10 will not work for anybody who isn't running a 64-bit system, which is also true in my case.
