All the cards listed here are below the minimum requirements we have listed. The m-versions (mobile) of regular cards will be weaker than the standard versions, so they are also below. We are trying to lower the requirements, especially for the graphics cards, since the requirements differ from the PC version, but it will take some time unfortunately.

Said requirements being:
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 6750 / NVIDIA GeForce 320 / NVIDIA GeForce 9600 or higher

It's good to hear you are attempting to fix the problem. I will eagerly await further news on the dev-team's progress.

Good to know something is being done. As long as it is fixed sometime down the road I personally will be pleased.

Thanks for the link. I've been having the flickering shields and cities issue with my MBP 2.53 mHz with the 9400/9600 combo.

I upgraded ram from 4 GB to 8GB, which helped with load times but didn't help with flickering.

I installed the mods FlatMap(Pretty) and TrueMute, which along with the changes in settings.txt greatly sped up load times and made scrolling in game much more smooth. Didn't touch the flickers though.

Shields are crystal clear on units, but not territory. Is there a mod to turn off shields? Cities would still shimmer but that seems minor if the shields are gone. We could think of it as a reflection of citizen activity, a brownian motion population.

Thanks to the devs who are working on this, and to all who post suggestions.

Same problem

My mac meets the minimum requirements but i still get the flickering problem. Thus i do not thing it's because we do not meet the requirements i
think it's because of the operating system. Its apple's fault for making it so damn hard to write code for macs. a polished turd is still a turd.

This makes no sense at all. Apple's fault for the OS being elegant? Really?

How about a more likely explanation... a card that meets 'minimum requirements' to us by number (as in 9600) but with an 'M' behind it, only it doesn't keep up as well as the non mobile (M) versions. I've used both Macs and PC's for as long as they've been around (literally), and I got fooled by this one too. It's not the developers fault. It's not Apple's fault. It's a reflection of how diverse we and our computing machines have become.

If you really think your Mac is a turd (albeit polished) consider donating it to a school or halfway house or some family with children that can't afford one, I guarantee they won't see it that way. Then you can go back to Windoze and deal with the delays caused by all of your necessary security software.

I think his point was that Macs use OpenGL rather than a DirectX clone, which makes porting 3D games from windows to Mac difficult (or not work as expected -- such as flickering). Also, Apple might not care to keep the most up-to-date drivers for our video cards + OS distributed to all of their users. Since there is no good way to install new video drivers except through Apple Update, if Apple is lazy, then we are generally screwed.

You can't compare CKII to Skyrim, Diablo III or any other third person game. CKII is more data heavy than any of those. CKII and many other paradox games use graphic card more than any 3d game you have played. Reason why is that CKII uses the graphic cards own memory to calculate stuff. So if the game lags means some part of your computer is not up to par. Most likely the graphic card. The graphic card requirements are clearly listed in the store page.

Well said Sergeant Schultz! (sorry, couldn't resist)

Apple indeed might not care to keep their stuff up to date, but that hasn't been been my experience.

And true, if Apple is lazy we'd all be generally screwed. Again, that hasn't been my experience with Apple computers or software (since 1985).

At any rate, there's no reason to call a Mac a polished turd regardless of the software not written for it. I stand by my post. He should give it away to someone who can use it (I'd say 'sell it', but who'd charge money for a used turd?)

I had no idea that my 9600m GT card would be consider below the minimum reqs for this game. That may make me an idiot, but it also doesn't seem to be clearly below the minimum requirements for the game.
In either case, please continue to attempt to lower the reqs to assist us mac users, as this issue greatly detracts from my experience.

The published specs for the game are:
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 6750 / NVIDIA GeForce 320 / NVIDIA GeForce 9600 or higher
and of course the mobile ("m") version will always be a less powerful card than the non-m version. But no-one's saying you're an idiot, I too have forgotten to check requirements thoroughly before I bought games, you just shrug and move on.

That said, I don't think we know that your flickering issue is anything to do with your card being under-spec.

It definitely doesn't make you an idiot. I have been playing through bootcamp with a 9400M since release so I assumed it would work under Mac OS also. Right now I am just crossing my fingers that there is some fix eventually so I can avoid booting in Windows all the time (or I stop being lazy/cheap and get a new computer)
